Gawd knows I love Mumsnet and I think it is populated by fab people.

But if you were seriously worried about someone in your family, why would you post here for advice? Wouldn't you phone your doctor straight away?

We're mostly a bunch of amateurs on this site and we can't see the patient...

Ninks - that's what I was after - support and handholding while I waited for DH.

She wasn't seriously injured at all, which was fairly obvious from the state of her hand but I was very upset and needed someone to talk me thrugh it.

A and E did nothing except give us some nurofen, make us wait for 3 hours then send us home without even seeing a Dr.

BitOfFun · 13/11/2010 23:09

Flyingzebra- I'm really not having a go. It's hard for me to remember what 18 month-olds are like, because my youngest is ten. I seem to recall her being a slippery bugger at the best of times though Grin

Alambil · 13/11/2010 23:09

well other than the fact that if she hadn't been told to go to A&E that night and not leave, she'd be dead.... nah, she didn't need urgent help

flyingzebra · 13/11/2010 23:09

Sorry nancydrew, meant to roll my eyes at the OP, not you! Apologies!

nameymcnamechange · 13/11/2010 23:10

Spooky was incredibly lucky that Aitch happened to have been around that day.

Who is spookycharlotte?

ConnorTraceptive · 13/11/2010 23:11

thanks namey that explains everything Grin

flyingzebra · 13/11/2010 23:13

God I hate it when I rise to one of these stupid AIBU threads just when I'm going to bed.

Night all, happy judging.

forevervacuuming · 13/11/2010 23:13

On one hand YANBU as there is the danger of getting incorrect medical advice, but on the other hand there are sadly far too many medical professionals who have the attitude that, if it's anything less than life threatening, it's all a big fuss about nothing, so I can see why people come here instead.

ConnorTraceptive · 13/11/2010 23:16

Zebra maybe you should post and enquire about what to do if you get stabbed with a pitch fork lest you post about it straight after the event and not seek medical assistance straight away!

nameymcnamechange · 13/11/2010 23:16

Sorry, Connor Grin.

SpookyCharlotte posted with vague symptoms, Aitch suggested ectopic pg. Spooky went to hospital but was sent home, although still had symptoms. Aitch urged her to go back. Sadly she did have an ectopic. So, yes, Mumsnet saved the day on that occasion.

What I am talking about is people in a SERIOUS SITUATION, who know it is serious, posting on Mumsnet. It does happen. I guess it is attention-seeking then.

Ironically I remember spookycharlotte, but don't know what happened, searching her shows up nothing recent. Can someone tell me what happened please??

BitOfFun · 13/11/2010 23:19

It is at it's worst on the relationship threads though. Especially from the lollers.

I am posting from the toilet lol. He is hacking at the door with an axe lol.

KickArseQueen · 13/11/2010 23:20

Thanks x'd posts

I think tho tbh, some people spend so much time on here that to them asking advice on here is no different to asking one of your mates if they were in the house.

BitOfFun · 13/11/2010 23:20

its. I-phone autocorrect, gah.

BigTeuchLittleTeuch · 13/11/2010 23:21

So far we have a lot of hand-holding or reassurance/back-up on non-critical but perhaps potentially serious situations...

Namey you're going to have to give a couple of examples!

BitOfFun · 13/11/2010 23:22

Good point, KickArse.

nameymcnamechange · 13/11/2010 23:25

Oh I hardly poke my head round the door of relationships these days Boffy.

There is a prime example in Active Convos right at this very moment BTLT.

Thankyou :)

ItsAllaBitDeathlyQuiet · 13/11/2010 23:28

I posted a "OMG HEART ATTACK???" thread a few minutes ago. I also told Spookycharlotte to get her arse to hospital within a few minutes (iirc) of her posting.

Am I both useless and fantastic at the same time? That would make me about normal I guess.

BigTeuchLittleTeuch · 13/11/2010 23:31

Oh I get you now, Namey...

Yeah, you right...you should always seek proper professional advice about which shade to use on labia...as a matter of some urgency Wink

(Couldn't see it, unless you mean Deathly's thread, which is more a 'hand-holding after the fact' thread)

ItsAllaBitDeathlyQuiet · 13/11/2010 23:32
nameymcnamechange · 13/11/2010 23:40

Nah, I'm going to bed now. It happens, fairly often (otherwise I wouldn't have been minded to post about it).

OP posts:
wukter · 13/11/2010 23:46

haven't bothered reading the whole thread but has it occurred to you that not everyone has access to nhs direct/on call doctor? In ye olden days you had Mrs Nextdoor who reared 12 of them that you could ask to take a look. Jesus broaden those horizons a bit.

BitOfFun · 13/11/2010 23:58

NHS Direct has a website though, and broadband users have telephones. I don't understand your point.
