Having loads of problems with my landlord and he wants to up my rent which is understandable as it is quite cheap. Problem is that the house is quite poorly built (takes alot of heating/water rates VERY high) have spoken to the water board and other utilties suppliers and they have been out and advised its due to crap pipework/windows etc.

Anyways long and short is should I move to a more expensive house? which hopefully will reduce the amount on bills. or do I stay here try and negiotiate rent but pay (what I think) are higher bills?

WWYD?

tell him what bill suppliers have said-if you can show it him in writing.then see if you can come to some arrangement.if not leave.

We moved out of the crappest house known to mankind at the end of august, it had no central heating or double glazing, none of the windows and doors shut properly and the electric was on a meter so cost us an absolute fortune to heat in the winter as the insides of the windows had ice on them it was THAT cold. We had 2 rooms downstairs and literally holed ourselves uo infront of the gas fire with blankets every night. As soon as we found out we were expecting we had to do something regarding where we lived, our rent was cheap and it was out first house away from parents, we were there for 3 years, each progressively colder and depressing but we got stuck in a rut as DP lost his job and we couldnt have moved even if we wanted to due to costs. We pay £100 more a month in rent now but I know that in the winter we will actually save money as not paying the earth to heat crap house.
Thinking about it now we don't know how we did it, it was sooooooo awful.
I went to the council when the landlord said they were putting the rent up and they said that environmental health would come out and assess the property with the view to making sure it was fit for habitation as the wiring was dodgy too, being pregnant though I couldnt deal with the hassle and taking on the landlord.
Im so glad we moved, granted I know no-one in this area but so much happier to have safe warm house for us and our small person when she arrives Smile.
Sorry that turned into a bit of a rant!

Do what LuckyKitty did - it's a much better option.
