Was I being unreasonable to leave ds crying in bed over a book??

Just put ds (22mths) down for his afternoon nap (we're an hour ahead here!) and it all ended in a bit of a meltdown. I always let him have a book in his cot to look at until he goes to sleep, but tend to give him the more 'crap' ones as we've had a few incidents where lovely board books have still managed to get ripped in the cot. I usually offer him books one by one until he finds one he likes but he ends up saying no to everyone of them (unless its the 'nice' ones!)so today I just got two books and asked which one. He said no to both so I just chose for him and put it in the cot. Cue a lot of crying, screaming, throwing before he finally went to sleep.I now feel a bit harsh! wabu?

22 month olds do that! YANBU - but they are good at making us feel bad!

He'll live, I don't think you were unresonable, it'll all be forgotten about once he wakes up

He is incredibly good at making me feel bad- he just has to look absolutely devastated at the smallest things! I'm sure there are plenty more tantrums like this to come so might as well get used to it Grin

Ya see I would have given in and got him the nice book ( also have a 22 month old) not saying that YABU just that I am a wuss Blush

yanbu
dd used to do that(still does cos of SN) so she only had cheap books to "play" with

seeker · 11/11/2010 12:55

I would have given him the book he wanted - they are his books after all.

I wouldn't allow a book in a cot, for fear of eating/chocking; but I am the ultimate helicopter parent.

I would sit and read alongside in my singy songy hypnotist voice.

This is not without potential difficulties; when she was a bit older she used to attack our throats if we missed out a vowel, changed a word......

YANBU.

Are 22 month olds too old for cloth books? I used to have them in the cot but can't remember for how long. Some of them are really lovely.
