To be annoyed that This Morning just broadcast soliders at Colchester chatting among themselves during the 2 minute silence?

Surely someone there had the accurate time? And they knew the tv cameras were on them. Immeditaly after it cut to trafalger square which WAS silent. IMHO It came across as very disrespectful.

Is it possible that they going by a local clock and waiting for a dong. (watched BBC so didn't see it)

I think it was just a simple error, I'm sure they had the silence even if they were 30 secs out.

Iwantscallops · 11/11/2010 13:43

I saw it and think that there must have been some confusion.

Do you honestly think those men and women would ignore the silence? There is absolutely no way that would happen.

Think it was just that nobody synchronised the clocks tbh.
I doubt any member of the forces in uniform would be disrespectful of the silence and or would prefer to be quite then face a senior officer.

elphabadefiesgravity · 11/11/2010 13:57

Probably impossible to synchonise clocks if you think that London takes its time from Big Ben and local places from whichever town hall/church clock was in the vicinity.

LisaD1 · 11/11/2010 14:29

OP, seriously? You're choosing today of all days to criticise the forces? Do you not think it was a simple error with the timings?

These men and women fight and die for our country they are hardly likely to be deliberately disrespectful of those that have already given their lives are they?!

Flisspaps · 11/11/2010 14:31

I too think it was just a timings error, I noticed the Wootton Bassett silence ending 'early'.

The soldiers would probably be mortified to find out they were being thought of as disrespectful.

GypsyMoth · 11/11/2010 14:32

what is disrespectful is people nitpicking on armistice day!!

giraffescantdancelikeannw · 11/11/2010 14:32

sounds like an error to me

TattyDevine · 11/11/2010 16:23

It was an error of timing, there is also a lag in broadcasting.

When you have your Sky + box on, its a good 5 seconds ahead of Freeview, for a start.

So there are discrepancies in actual broadcasting time, but also discrepancies in the "correct" time as well.

Cut them some slack, they are fighting for the country, you are not (as far as I am aware)

YABU.

StrictlyOogieBoogiePumpkin · 11/11/2010 16:36

YABVU! Colchester is a Garrison town and the army and their families make up about half the population! Also currently more than half of the soldiers are out in Afghan so I somehwta doubt they would chose to be talking during the minute silence when their friends are out there right now.

Before jumping to conclusions maybe take a few seconds to actually think.

saffy85 · 11/11/2010 16:42

I think our 2 minutes silence at work was a few minutes out. They made an announcement over the tannoy system but a few people said it was a bit late. Or maybe their watches were a few minutes fast? Who knows? Surely what is important is that everyone pays their respects at the perceived time of 11am?
