To not understand what Claudia Winkleman is doing with her whole eye/fringe thing

I mean, I think she looks manic and weird and sometimes it works and sometimes she looks like central casting for Mrs Rochester.

How did she get Film 2010? I mean fine she's ok but really, she can hardly have been the best person for the job! Pretty and bright and dementedly enthusiastic like a Posh Puppy, but really, I'd rather have someone with more knowledge myself.

"Never mind that, she said "fuck" on air!"

I missed that - only tuned in half way through, but was lmao at the serious apologies/backtracking going on.

I like her presentation style and think that she's probably a good laugh in RL (maybe even sassy enough to be a mumsnetter?), but she does need a good haircut, poor love.

discobeaver · 10/11/2010 16:14

Lots of people were anti her getting the film gig, a lot because of nepotism (she's Eve Pollard's daughter)and probably a lot because of sexism.

She seems ok though, but her fringe would drive me nuts. She must get it cut every few days to keep it that exact length. It's not as annoying as Frankie from The Saturdays who has to stick her head on sideways to be able to see anything.

UnquietDad · 10/11/2010 16:17

Actually it may have been a production assistant and not Claudia who was sweary.

Havingkittens · 10/11/2010 16:18

She's quite recently had an operation to insert lenses into her eyes because she had such terrible eyesight to the point of being almost blind. Maybe the hair over the eyes is so she can film with the studio lights without it affecting her eyes too much following the op. She can't exactly wear shades on camera. If she did that everyone would probably slag her off for that too!

discobeaver · 10/11/2010 16:25

I think she should wear pirate style eye patches and squint. She could pull it off.

Woodhen · 10/11/2010 16:27

I like her but im with you on the fringe - I really find myself wanting to get it out of her eyes!!

bounty007 · 10/11/2010 16:28

she has sleepy eyes (or is it eye??) and reminds me of my friends very old sad eyed dog (in the nicest possible way! Grin)
I

She needs to

1.Wear a foundation in a lighter shade than ' Terracotta ' by Lancome

  1. she needs a bloody goos hair cut
  1. She needs a bloody good lippy

thats all

Quenelle · 10/11/2010 16:31

I like her look. If I could be bothered had time to do something with my hair I would try it myself.

LouMacca · 10/11/2010 16:36

I like Claudia. I think she looks fab and is doing a great job on Film 2010. So there!

HalfTermHero · 10/11/2010 16:50

I think she is fine and dandy.

pointydog · 10/11/2010 16:58

I used to be utterly confused by caludia's hair. I couldn't work out what she was up to.

i quite like her style and intelligence.

I am not convinced that TV presenters need to have mountains of knowledge on the tv subject.

OutOutLetItAllOut · 10/11/2010 17:08

im shocked she can even open her eyes with the amount of slap she has plastered on them.

woopsidaisy · 10/11/2010 17:17

I love the Winkle, and will not listen to this....this.....OUTRAGE!
So she isn't the normal "standard" female tv presenter, variety is the spice of life. She is married to a film producer, and if passion for films counts she is top of the class! She proved her film knowledge on the back of her Oscar shows. She loves films! Tess Daly cannot dance a step-doesn't stop her presenting Strictly.
And relax.....

MrsVincentPrice · 10/11/2010 17:18

I love her. She wore dark lipstick once on It Takes Two and it looked positively shocking: the Digital Spy boards practically self-combusted. Even DD, who was 2 at the time, said in a confused tone "mummy, the lady on the television, what has happened to her?"
She ditched the fringe for a while as well, claiming it was not a good look for the over 30s, but she relapsed on that as well.
Apparently she's best mates with Victoria Coren - now doesn't that sound like a fun night out down the wine bar?

MardyBra · 10/11/2010 17:28

Count me in for a night out MrsVP - can you persuade Davina and Zoe to join us?

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 10/11/2010 17:31

I heart Claudia. Love her fashion/style, albeit not the nude lippy and I'd love to see what she looks like without the make up. Someone on here once described her as having a "face like a melted welly", which I thought was genius.

Isn't Film 2010 on after the watershed? Presumably not, if there's been a fuss about the F-word.

pointydog · 10/11/2010 17:35

I quite like Victoria Coren too.

I quite like them both.

I think you are underestimating the Wink, stocking. Is it just cos she is pretty and posh?

TheFarSide · 10/11/2010 17:39

Reminds me of Davina, and one of our managers at work - both very ENTHUSIASTIC about everything and exceptionally annoying.

Can't stand gushy people.

Longstocking2 · 11/11/2010 00:06

excellent kicking off re La Winkelman, thanks for the feedback!

Actually I don't think it unsisterly to have a go at La Winkleman re Film 2010. She is bright and able and I'm happy for her to present Strictly stuff but I'm a Mark Kermode fan and I'm a bit spoilt, I don't really want to her La Gush about film, I want someone who isn't hopping on the sofa like Tom Cruise with Oprah.
"I love this film it's brilliant!!"
It's just not got enough light and shade for me. Wossy has a lot more film depth imo, it's not a gender thing. Claudia plays ickle wickle head shaking puppy so she gives up her right to be respected for her Bwain!
No she doesn't get her baps out thank god but so she shouldn't.
I do like her dress sense, it's just the mad hair plus pots of make up is hugely distracting, it does look good sometimes, but I think in a presenter you need to mediate the programme to the viewer if you like, not become a distraction or the whole visual focus.
She may be clever but the effect is style triumphing over content.

I have the same problem with Evan Davies. I think he's too odd looking for telly, lovely on the radio. But distracting on tv. Sorry, just my opinion.

I don't mind pretty and posh per se at all!
I like Mariella Gushstrop!

Attractiveness is FINE but looking bonkers isn't in a visual medium!
