DD is now 8 and we still have pram, buggy, cotbed, nursing chair, highchair cluttering the house. The thing is, DH doesn't want to just give it all to the charity shop because of how expensive it all was. I agree that we sis spend a huge amount of money on really good quality stuff BUT I am so fed up of the clutter I just want rid!!! AIBU to want to take it all to the charity shop? We just haven't the time to ebay the lot (if we haven't done it in 6 years....)

Get rid, it's dead money and someone who can't afford to spend a 'huge' amount of money will be really grateful.

TheUnmentioned · 09/11/2010 16:13

Why not sell it in your local paper? less faff than ebay ime

canyou · 09/11/2010 16:13

Can you give him an ultimatum if it is not gone by xx day [ebay or car boot sale or classified ads] it will be taken by zz charity?

classydiva · 09/11/2010 16:15

Maybe he wants another child.

Sell it on gumtree.

BooBooGlass · 09/11/2010 16:16

yanbu. Keeping baby stuff for more than a few years is a big mistake as the latest model soon becomes outdated and therefore worth very little. Do a bootsale and spend the profits on booze Grin

pugsandseals · 09/11/2010 16:19

dive - there is no chance of another child & he knows that! Just doesn't like the idea of giving it all away. Same goes for old toys etc. We have already done toy sales and not managed to sell much. I get so depressed when you have to load up the car & bring it all back home again!

Get on Freecycle - someone will be very glad of it, and it will all be out of your house quickly

ThatllDoPig · 09/11/2010 16:23

Or put a card up in your local shop. There's always parents like me looking for bargains, then you can spend the money on something nice for you and family - day out or something.

pugsandseals · 09/11/2010 16:30

Right - I think that's enough of a kick up the backside to get me thinking! Will talk to DH tonight & set a date for it all to be gone one way or another - thanks all!

What about selling it on here? I think it's a rennet for a year?

greentig3r · 09/11/2010 16:38

Maybe you could guilt-trip him into it. We're registered with Freecycle and sometimes see post from people who can't afford much and really appreciate a bit of help. If you offered it as a job lot I bet you'd be rid of it within a week.

greentig3r · 09/11/2010 16:39

CMOTdibbler, sorry, missed your post there!

Heracles · 09/11/2010 16:40

Key word: "was". Get rid.

canyou · 09/11/2010 18:40

Sell it and do some thing yummy for yourself with the money [I would Blush ]

Firawla · 09/11/2010 19:07

definitely get rid if your not having more dc, how on earth have you got room to keep it all in your house for so long! even if you give it free personally i would just be glad of the space, but try gumtree if you want a few quid much less work than ebay

MerryMarigold · 09/11/2010 19:15

Gumtree easier than ebay I think. Try that for the larger items (say 4 things to be realistic...nursing chair, cotbed, buggy). Set a deadline and do it. All the other smaller bits and bobs/ stuff that doesn't sell to charity or freecycle. You won't get a lot for a highchair or even an 8 year old buggy, even if it was good quality.

potplant · 09/11/2010 19:20

Phone up your local women's refuge and see if they can use it. He can't possibly complain about someone with absolutely nothing benefitting from it.

I'm a shocking hoarder but even I don't have 8 year old cots!

PinkieMinx · 09/11/2010 19:24

Give him 2 weeks to sell it himself, take to chairty shop if not done. Fair compromise.

ramblingmum · 09/11/2010 19:38

I did a nearly new sale at a local sports center with a lot of baby stuff. It seamed easier than selling thing individually and a the end they collected unsold stuff for Banardos.

MumNWLondon · 09/11/2010 20:39

It gets worth less (esp buggy/pram) the longer you hold onto it. DS2 is using DD's pram but I hardly see anyone using a pram that old and DD is only 7. Everyone wants latest model.

Do you not have any friends who are having babies, esp for nursing chair? Highchair not worth much.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 09/11/2010 20:43

My DC are 4 and 2 so still using some of that stuff, but can't wait to get rid! I've been bagging up small clothes with great satisfaction and seeing them off to the charity shop.

If you haven't sold it in all that time, would say just give it away. Good karma and all that (and the money that you spent on it initially is spent, gone, not coming back etc)

FanjoKazooie · 09/11/2010 20:48

I love giving baby stuff away now that our family is most definitely complete.

Bring on the next stage!

SlightlyJaded · 09/11/2010 20:51

Wait for a local NCT sale to come up. Then you can get rid of it all in one go, instead of the faffing of selling each piece individually. Anything that doesn't go on the day gets dropped off to the charity shop on the way home
