to be cross when accused of being inappropriately dressed

I was trying on some blouses and jumpers in Primark in front of a mirror on the main shop floor - as I had seen many other people do before. I was with my baby who screams if taken into changing rooms - she prefers to see people milling about. A female security guard approached me and asked me to do my changing in the fitting room. I asked if you weren't allowed to change in the shop - because I've never been asked to do such a thing before. The guard said what I was wearing was too revealing and inappropriate. I was wearing a very demure knee length skirt and black vest top (with good supporting bra underneath). I said that I was wearing exactly what many women wear in the Summer and if she really wanted me to stop changing where i was she would have to get a manager to explain why what I was wearing was deemed inappropriate. She slunk off - somewhat astonished that I wouldn't do as she asked.

I was so appalled and insulted by this guard that I wrote a complaint to the manager. Was I BU?

yanbu (technically) - you were wearing exactly what people wear in the summer

but it's common to change in a shop Wink

have some decorum woman Grin

YANBU - as you say, people go out wearing a lot less. It's not if you were down to your thong.

I hate changing rooms even without a baby. If they want people to use them, they should get rid of the hachet-faced "assistants" who make it clear they are doing you a massive personal favour by letting you take your 3 items through after queueing for 15 minutes.

Umm, I was a bit [catsbumface] just at the Primark bit but then... what Laurie said.

But well done for sticking up for yourself.

Laurie - Thank you. I like being common. I was only aiming for practical.

What madam said!

YANBU.

Seen loads of people doing this before, saves standing in a 3 mile queue for ages first!

potplant · 09/11/2010 15:41

She thought a long skirt and a vest top was inappropriate?
I'm assuming you weren't in Liverpool Primark then. She'd bust a blood vessel if she saw the way some youngsters go out up here.

hairytriangle · 09/11/2010 15:41

YANBU. Anyone in the queue for changing in Primark deserves a medal IMHO.

GibBOOM · 09/11/2010 15:48

YABU for going into Primark.

BeaSpellsaLot · 09/11/2010 16:04

YANBU

But I wouldn't change on a shop floor.
