i just really hurt my back lifting ds.

think i need to go see doctor as it really hurts and can barely move. but i still have pj bottoms and t-shirt on. no underwear either.

i really don't think i can get dressed. here with kids by myself with no one near me.

would you go out like this?

sorry for typos an lack of caps. typing one handed while other hand holds back.

also if can't get appointment for a while - is ice or heat best?

How are you getting there? If it's that bad, can't your dr make a home visit? If you stress that you are unclothed and unable to get clothed?

I think heat works best for me but DH alternates. If you can stand up ok, I often stand in the shower and let the hot tank disgorge everything onto my lower back. Bliss Smile

I hope you feel better soon!

CakeCuresAll · 09/11/2010 13:14

it's about a 5 min walk so probably 20 when i'm shuffling.

i didn't even think of a home visit - thanks. think i will ask for one now.

I hurt my back lifting a toddler recently. I rang my mum, cried then rested and was able to walk in a few hours and it took a week or so to get better completely.

I would not go out. I know it's scary, but rest a bit, take some painkillers and once you have got over the shock then call the doctors and ask for advice. There's probably not a lot they will do apart from give you painkillers and tell you to rest initially anyway.

hope it gets better soon

ginodacampoismydh · 09/11/2010 13:41

i would not go out its cold and wet and you have a child with you, what if you cannot walk or fall etc. have you called for a dr visit. prob not too urgant to see dr as they probably wont do much other than pain killers.

you need to have equal amounts of rest and movement probably 5 mins intervals of laying on floor (not sofa) on your front with elbows on floor resting chin in hands and then walking trying as much as you can to bend knees as high as you can. if you cant lay down or get up again sit on sofa so that your legs and hips are in complete paralel with each other, boosting your self up with cusions if needed. I would sugest you get someone round to help with your dc.

hope u better soon.

CakeCuresAll · 09/11/2010 14:21

thanks for the replies.

dr will come after surgery later to give some strong painkillers.

possibly got someone coming for the kids later.

been sitting as you suggest gino. not tried the floor thing - doubt i'll make it down let alone up!

never had back problems before - now have much greater sympathy for those that do!

i was folding laundry when i turned to the side to lift 18 month ds into the couch and it was suddenly agony in lower back / down one side.

i think i'm sitting to stiff now beaus i'm getting a burning in my shoulder too??

going to try and loosen up my shoulders once the painmeds kick in.

thanks

Poor you. I wouldn't go out, but not because of the PJ's particularly.

I once went to the chemist in (technically) PJ's. I had really bad tonsilitis and was pregnant too (possibly irrelevant!)

They weren't full-on flannel pj's, but loungey trousers, white long sleeved t shirt and long cardigan + Uggs, but still...I felt really ferral! Was that sick I didn't care.

ginodacampoismydh · 09/11/2010 14:32

sounds like muscular in which case heat would be best. once you have back pain whole posture changes to compensate so you will get stiffness and pain else where, thats why its important to move around also. hope you get some good drugs from gp.

bigchris · 09/11/2010 14:34

Your gp sounds a good 'un

LittleMissHissyFit · 09/11/2010 16:26

Poor you!

I did my back in moving a bag of cat litter once, it was so bad I actually fainted, fell flat on the floor, onto my ear. Just then the post man arrived. You should have seen his expression when he saw my (ashen)face!

It took weeks for my bruised ear to stop hurting!

CakeCuresAll · 09/11/2010 16:46

ouch littlemiss! Hope it'd better now though.

I had a bit of double vision and saw some trippy colours but no fainting thankfully - the dc would have freaked!

I'm reluctant to move too much but i got up to go to the loo and it was manageable - bloody painful but ok as long as i didn't twist.

luckily, i had put a curry in the slow cooker - dd is 9 and I think she'll be fine to put the rice on the hob for me. I'll sort it once it's done though - hot water and children makes me cringe!

They will hopefully go to my sisters in the morning to let me rest for the day

I have had very bad back ache for the past four days but have managed a long commute to work for the past two days, though on day 1 I couldn't get up from bed for several hours.
Put some trackie bottoms and a sweat shirt on - socks are more difficult so you might have to forego those.
If you have a walking stick/walking poles keep it close to you as it helps when trying to stand up.

LittleMissHissyFit · 09/11/2010 17:40

Oh this was years ago. I had a second interview later that day too. The Chairman had dropped a £10 on the floor of his office.

After shuffling in an slowly sitting down, I had to point to it and tell him, cos there was no way I'd have been able to get up again if I'd have bent to pick it up!

Got the job btw...

Hope you can get a day to lie down, that'd really help!

Hope you are feeling better, gentle hugs!

ginodacampoismydh · 09/11/2010 18:51

littlemiss that reminds me of when i had been off sick once with back pain as my lower discs had collapsed, cant remember the technical term. but was mobile after 2 weeks and was able to drop my sick note off but far from better. my boss dropped my sick note on the floor on purpose to see if i bent to pick it up, areshole said just testing ha ha!!

CakeCuresAll · 10/11/2010 11:08

So my back is still agony.

And I'm upset that I have no support from my family although I'm not sure why this is surprising really Angry

Luckily, I have a neighbour who is coming to take my toddler for a couple of hours. Hopefully, he'll get bored of jumping very hard giving me lots of cuddles before she comes after lunch.

Is it really the done thing to focus solely on your own family sodding everyone else's?

This may turn into a 'lousy SIL' type thread - sorry :(

and Gino - I wonder if he ever caught any fakers that way?

Glad you're ok now littlemiss :)
