Second post just arrived and, with it, a Christmas card Shock. It's from second cousin who we never see and just says

Dear Slightly-Jaded, Mr SJ and DCs

Have a wonderful Christmas

Best wishes

Second Cousin and Family

WTF? I feel like calling up and saying something like 'You'll never guess what? Your Christmas card from last year has only just arrived!'

Really, what is the point? It's not a Christmas card because it isn't Christmas. There is no message of any meaning and she is obviously getting them out early so it's all 'out of the way'.

AIBU to think sending out Christmas cards before December is a different kind of lazy?

Maybe she's worried about postal strikes?

irishma · 08/11/2010 14:58

It IS the 8th of November right?? I havent taken a nap for a bit too long and woken up in December have I??

Seriously..send her a St Patricks Day card or something....Or an Easter Egg....

loonies · 08/11/2010 15:33

YANBU far too early for Christmas. IMHO all Christmas related things should be banned before the 25th Novemeber.

loonies · 08/11/2010 15:35

Perhaps she was celebrating that xyz festival that Moody Betty mentioned the other day.

badfairy · 08/11/2010 15:42

OMG! Please don't tell me it's started already.....YANBU anything before December is unacceptable Wink

taintedpaint · 08/11/2010 15:47

YABU. My relatives in Canada start early as they send cards all over the world with letters and photographs. It's not being lazy, it's being organised.

madonnawhore · 08/11/2010 15:48

Wow, sounds like she has too much time on her hands!

PfftTheMildySpookyDragon · 08/11/2010 15:49

oooh yes send her an easter card

LoveBeingAMummy · 08/11/2010 15:50

I wouldn't have opened it, then put it away till christmas and probably found it unopened, during the spring clean Grin

Onlyaphase · 08/11/2010 15:58

I can beat that - on Monday 6 November I received a Christmas present for DD. Someone has way too much time on their hands!

ledkr · 08/11/2010 16:32

i stopped sending them ages ago.Its lush.I get fewer every year so thats great.
I hate them cluttering up my mat and then shelves or whatever and i loath those holders you can buy to stack them all up in.I feel like poking them back thru the door when they come thr.
BAH HUMBUG

OracleInaCoracle · 08/11/2010 16:37

i send mine out at the middle/end of november because if i dont i forget. mine are all written and addressed waiting to be sent though. YABU, some people like to get "tasks" done asap, that way they can relax in december and just enjoy the festivities.

Trubert · 08/11/2010 16:39

I have had it confirmed by MNers that I am suffering from premature Christmas organisation syndrome, and even I think that's a bit early.

SlightlyJaded · 08/11/2010 20:40

Lissielou but it shouldn't be a task should it? I know that it is a bit of a chore, but the point is to remember people you can't see at Christmas. What's the point if it's nowhere near Christmas - it's just ticking boxes

Itsjustafleshwound · 08/11/2010 20:42

My cards are going out early this year (but not as early as this card!!) as we are out of the country so apologies in advance - it has nothing to do with being on top of things (as if!!) just necessity!!

OracleInaCoracle · 08/11/2010 21:15

but it is a task, of course it is. no different to wrapping presents. I want to make sure that i dont forget anyone, and the best way to do it is to do it early.

SlightlyJaded · 08/11/2010 21:17

Well then can't you write them early, address them early, stamp them early but post them nearer to Christmas? At least then it feels (to the recipient) as though the sentitment is right.

Not really sure why this is irritating me so much Hmm

Last year there seemed to be some sort of competition amoungst several of my friends on facebook

Loads of 'got all the cards done and posted' type statuses.

It appeared to be more about being the most organised uber mum than actual festive cheer.

I got several and after seeing all the posts on facebook felt I was some sort of pawn in their weird game.

I dont send cards myself so perhaps I am missing something.

OracleInaCoracle · 08/11/2010 21:29

thats what I do (as I said, mine are written, addressed and stamped sitting my the front door ready to go in about 10d time. but i do understand why people would send them out, especially if they are quite scatty/disorganised. christmas is the only tme of year I can let my inner control freak go nuts. pre ds i worked in restaurants and as a result I do see the festive season as a military operation. fruit starts soaking in october, cake is made beginning november. presents are bought throughout the year and hidden all over our family's houses labelled and i sort through the decorations about now so i can replace any broken bits and/or bulbs.
