YABU. "Finders keepers" only works when you don't know who the money belongs to. Maybe you should suggest that he buys you something nice as a reward for finding it?

Love the idea that he keeps hundreds of pounds in his pyjamas, though.

foggyfig · 08/11/2010 13:30

In our house finders keepers. If you are careless enough to lose it, you lose it all together. Grin

TattyDevine · 08/11/2010 13:33

Surely his money is your money and vice versa?

Myleetlepony · 08/11/2010 13:33

How much do you like your DH?

sixpercenttruejedi · 08/11/2010 13:33

you should return it to it's rightful owner, shouldn't you? Hmm

then charge him a whacking great finder's fee Grin

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 08/11/2010 13:33

This is your husband, and you don't combine finances to the point where this is an individual advantage?

Either your household can deal with you spending 300 quid on unnecessaries, or it can't. Either way, there's nothing to gain from taking money.

mutable · 08/11/2010 13:36

I don't get this 'his money' 'my money' thing.
It's all the family's money.

ChristmasTrulyReigns · 08/11/2010 13:37

Give him half back and claim the washing machine must have stolen half to keep the odd socks company. Wink

QuintessentialShadows · 08/11/2010 13:38

why would you take it, you know he was looking for it?

Poledra · 08/11/2010 13:39

I am so tickled by the idea of your DH keeping money in his jammies. What does he think he needs it for - to pay the ferryman if he pops his clogs during the night?

SandStorm · 08/11/2010 13:40

YABU

He knows he lost it and presumably he's been searching for it. It's a bit petty to keep it. If it had been £5 my answer might have been different but how would you feel if the situation was reversed?

(I also don't get the 'my money' 'his money' argument.)

darleneconnor · 08/11/2010 13:41

It's both your money surely? Confused

TrillianAstra · 08/11/2010 13:41

Ask him how much he would give as a reward if someone knew where his £300 was.

Or make a little treasure-seeking game for when he gets home, with clues that lead to the next clue, to thenext clue, and then to the pyjamas.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 08/11/2010 13:42

How bizarre - isn't it joint money anyway?

EricNorthmansMistress · 08/11/2010 13:43
Grin I keep paper money that I find in DH's trousers (never £300, more the odd fiver) because I have told him and told him to check them first before putting them in the washing basket. I have been known to lie and say I never checked them and let him think his van keys are currently sloshing around the washing machine [evil] He does tend to check them now though, so it obviously works.... YABU though, tell him you found it when he gets home and enjoy the relief as it spreads across his face!
SheWillBeLoved · 08/11/2010 13:44

How annoyed would you be at losing £300, and then finding out that your H found it, yet didn't tell you, and let you go on thinking you had lost it whilst claiming it all for himself?

Don't be a weirdo selfish arse. Tell him you found it.

"It's all the family's money."... those kind of naive comments just crack me up. Grin Ladies... always have a bit put by for yourself. It's a cruel world out there and you'll never regret it.

To the OP... return the money but choose your moment. Timing is everything

GoldenHaze · 08/11/2010 13:46

I'd be beside myself with worry if I'd lost £300!

EvilEyeButterPie · 08/11/2010 13:46

What was it to be spent on? In our house, that could only be rent money, but if it was a night out or something (and that is your kind of financial situation) then things might be different.

QuintessentialShadows · 08/11/2010 13:47

My mum misplaced £2k.
Then she put another £2k in a small red box, and locked it with a key. Then she lost the key. And the little red box. Different situation, but I hope the money is found. One day.

hifi · 08/11/2010 13:48

i phoned him straight away to say i had found it and jokingly said it was finders keepers. he said he didn't know about that. i said i would post on here and he said ok.it was his spendo for the week,we have joint finances.

OP posts:
misdee · 08/11/2010 13:48

i'd tease him about it. ask him if he ever found it etc etc.

then maybe post him a list of clues where to find it

toddlerama · 08/11/2010 13:51

This calls for a treasure hunt. Make him find each note individually.
