to think that a 9.30pm finish to a party is too late on a school night?

For an 11 yr old and the venue is an hour and a half drive away for everyone and no lift was even offered.

I'd say thanks but no thanks. That's far too late and I'd have second thoughts on a weekend too with a journey that long on top!

maddy68 · 07/11/2010 21:01

no 9.30 is fine as a one off

theredhen · 07/11/2010 21:04

So 11.30pm by the time DSS gets to bed and we will all be up before 7am tomorrow.

I'd allow 9.30 as a one-off. But the journey is insane so I'd decline.

Caboodle · 07/11/2010 21:11

Yanbu 9.30 is too late anyway, even without ridiculous journey.

theredhen · 07/11/2010 21:12

We're in a very rural area, but there are places that do the same thing, 35 mins away. Not sure why the parents have chosen this venue. Confused

Why is the party being held so far away? It seems mad, but there may be a good reason?!

I'd allow it, fill the car up with kids, find a restaurant/coffee shop near the party venue then bring them all home. It wont hurt them for one night and will be a lot of fun for them.

verytellytubby · 07/11/2010 21:13

I wouldn't drive 3 hours for a children's party. Selfish mum.

ENormaSnob · 07/11/2010 21:13

9.30pm would be ok at a push.

An hour and a half journey on top? No way.

theredhen · 07/11/2010 21:15

If I chose a venue that far away, there is no way I would expect the parents to drive that far. I've done closer parties and done all the running around.

There are also our other children to consider. DP has said if he was still single he would have taken his other children with him and waited. Youngest DSC is only 7! Shock

That's a point - what are you supposed to do during the party? Has the mum made some sort of effort to make sure parents have somewhere comfy to wait? Preferably with a coffee?

I'm intrigued as to what the party is that it can't be held nearer to home, especially as you say there are closer venues.

theredhen · 07/11/2010 21:33

It's Quasar. DP has apparently sat in the car reading a book for nearly 2 hours. Sad

ChippingIn · 07/11/2010 21:40

I'd be less impressed for Quasar tbh. I was thinking it would be something special...

Anyway, it's one evening, they'll have a blast. Fill the car up with kids, take a book... you'll get some brownie points :)

pointydog · 07/11/2010 21:48

yes, if not home till 11

pointydog · 07/11/2010 21:49
