Had a man run past me in them on the way to college yesterday. Put me right off my coffee.

Bloody hell they are weird looking things, even worse than those nobby camel toe shoes. They wouldn't fit me either I have freaky long toes too

They would never fit DH. His second toe is longer than his big toe (which he insists is normal. I think these suggest he is WRONG)

I note they are kangaroo leather. Extra bouncy then

Horrible. Devil's slippers.

They're all the rage over here in California. It's when people wear them for everyday use that I think they're a bit bizarre.

I do need a new pair of climbing shoes and I was wondering about getting some.

My cousin has these but can only wear them outdoors when visiting family down south. In Scotland he can't wear them in public!

Not sure about the ones with toes, I don't even like toe socks, but I'm fascinated with barefoot running shoes after looking round that website.... I think I need some!

If you asked me to guess that a 'vibram fivefingers' was it wouldn't have been that...

DH has a pair, in brown. They look like gorilla's feet, and I won't let him near me in them.

He is kerazy about martial arts, running etc. and swears that they are comfortable, fantastic for technique, close to nature, other shoes aren't so well-aligned etc. etc blah blah blah. Doesn't stop them being gorilla feet though.

I guess for climbing they would be great actually, hadn't thought of that.

Lots of MNers seem to have them. Is this the new Boden? Do you think they do them in floral print?

Oh and Grin at Trillian. "Oh goody dear, my vibram five fingers has arrived"

I would look shorter than ever in those! Do you think they'd add a heel? :o

They've been on my wish list for a time now (and at £130 that's where they will stay).

I don't like wearing shoes and would love being able to tramp about outside in a non-shoe. I'm sure it's better for posture and your muscles to go barefoot.

I want some!

I don't think their appearance is the point Hmm But hey, if it bothers you look away.

My sister has some. I'm very jealous. She wears them for walking and running and nimble-foots around. I feel like a galumphing oaf in my fitflops.

Surely they are no good for those of us older ladies with incipient bunions/hard skin who need a bit of arch support?

Report
pottonista · 08/11/2010 11:58

I hope he was wearing some of these too.

Report
emptyshell · 08/11/2010 12:00

They're not something I could ever wear because I've got really high arches so need a lot of cushioning in shoes, but I know a lot of people who run wear them (there's debate over whether running shoes with lots of shock absorbency do more harm than good and muck with the natural way your foot would hit the ground without being encased in £200's worth of rubber and foam).

I've had lots of foot, calf and knee problems over the years. Which is why I want to try them. I tried running totally barefoot last summer and it felt good apart from the fact the soles of my feet were burning!

gapbear I've just had to explain to the entire office why I'm pissing myself at that.

One of the mums at school has a bright pink pair. I feel like a man trying to avoid talking to boobs if I am having a conversation with her - "Maintain eye contact! Eye contact!"

:o

I see a lot of them around where I work. Usually teamed with a hyper trendy haircut and clothes that can be best described as for twats structural.
