to pee in a sink?

Namechanged as a bit Blush

Yesterday, I was out shopping with 8 week old DS at retail park type place. I used the public baby change room to feed him as he was suddenly very hungry - like they do, from asleep to starving with no warning - and it was closer than starbucks!

Now, my pelvic floor is still not what it was (will it ever be?) and I was really hoping there would be a loo in the baby room - there was not. I had a buggy full of shopping, baby in sling and was on my own. He has reflux and needs to kept upright after feeds, hence carrying baby and wheeling shopping.

He fed for ages and I was getting more and more desperate, so when he finished I peed in the handwashing sink Blush

Is this really gross, or reasonable. It's not something I've ever considered before. I couldn't be arsed juggling all the shoppping / baby / sling etc into the loo's . . .

Just so you know - I did give it a good rinse with the handwash and wiped (the sink) with paper towels.

So was IBU?

No

Hedgeblunder · 06/11/2010 23:35

Ummm no, I think it's ok as a one off!

effymeffy · 06/11/2010 23:36

No, as a one off its fine!!

Dansmommy · 06/11/2010 23:39

Better than wetting yourself in public! Grin
I'm intigued as to how you managed with baby in sling...I've not tried using the loo with the baby strapped on, I didn't think it would be do-able Blush. Does everyone do this?

ChippingIn · 06/11/2010 23:39

How on earth did you manage that? Aren't the sinks a bit high for that kind of thing...?

If it was an 'emergency' and you cleaned it afterwards, then no, YANB(too)U.

bethelbeth · 06/11/2010 23:41

Yanbu but don't make a habit of it!! lol.

I'm more impressed at the sheer logistics tbh.

booyhoo · 06/11/2010 23:42

YANBU

you were desperate. i have tried getting a buggy with loads of shopping into a cubicle. it doesn't happen. was the sink a low down one? i have BF on the loo so i can see how weeing with teh sling on could work.

weelady · 06/11/2010 23:44

Dansmommy - there is a knack to using the loo with baby in sling, but I've practised at home Grin

Chippingin - stood on the BF chair - and I'm tall . . .

Am impressed by the gymnastics.

Stayed overnight at an Oxford college and asking where the toilets were - down the stairs and across the quad - and I remarked that must be really inconvenient in the night, only to be told what did I think most of the students used the sinks in their rooms for [boak]

weelady · 06/11/2010 23:45

See, I didn't think I was BU but DH was disgusted when I told him. Thanks ladies!

ChippingIn · 06/11/2010 23:46

LOL - I'm barely 5ft. I'd have to climb up on the bench then shuffle over the sink... and hope to God there aren't any hidden cameras!

JarethTheGoblinKing · 06/11/2010 23:49

It's always confused me that there aren't toilets in the baby changing areas, meaning queueing up once for the baby change/feed area, then again when you need the loo... daft!

(John Lewis aside, obviously)

Montifer · 06/11/2010 23:49

YANBU, needs must.

One of the fabulous tips I've gleaned from MN is that a disposable nappy will absorb an adult size wee, I always carry a spare and one in the glovebox of car.
This saved my bacon (or car upholstery at least) stuck on M1 for hours in blizzard last winter, in the dark thankfully Grin

weelady · 06/11/2010 23:51

the logistics looked easier than struggling off to the loo with all my crap DS. I didn't consider if it would take my weight until sat on the sink though!
Also hope no hidden cameras!

Good to know montifer! Grin

If the alternative was you were going to piss yourself, yanbu, if not, yabu.

cakewench · 06/11/2010 23:57

your DH was disgusted? Is he the only man on earth who has never peed in a sink? (I am not at all suggesting it's regular practice, only that I've heard many sheepish tales of being desperate and using nearby sinks.)

YANBU. Love the namechange, btw! Grin

weelady · 07/11/2010 00:00

cake: DH says - 'not that he can recall' Hmm

Yanbu and I?m hugely impressed??.
Lets be honest here chances are you left it cleaner that before you peed in it

AngelsOnHigh · 07/11/2010 00:23

Saw an implement in a camping catalogue. A funnel thing attached to a long clear coloured plastic hose.

Appaently it's for ladies to use when out camping. I guess it would serve the same purpose if you kept one with you to use in emergencies. You would probably have to be wearing a skirt or dress though. Grin

Undertone · 07/11/2010 00:23

Wee is sterile FFS, until it's been sitting around for a bit. Wee is as gross, if not LESS gross, than sweat or saliva. Pee anywhere you want, say I.

MoralDefective · 07/11/2010 00:49

OK...Here wee go..
When i lived in a nurses home we had sinks in our bedrooms.
We had to walk down long corridors to the loos in the night....
We all peed in our sinks.
Especially when we were drunk.

oneofthosedays · 07/11/2010 00:49

Angels - It's called a sheewee I think, they look hilarious!!

Good to know re nappy taking adult size wee, I shall keep one in the car!!

oneofthosedays · 07/11/2010 00:50

Oh, and to answer your question op - YANBU, I would have done the same in your situation.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 07/11/2010 01:17

shewee

Women use them at festivals to pee in bottles avoid the long queues at the ladies...
