taking a baby to fireworks

would it be unreasonable to take a 15 week old baby to a fireworks display. He is not particularly sensitive to loud noises and it is very close to home so i could take him home immediately if he got upset. Has anyone else taken a baby this young to fireworks and if so how did they react?

I bet if you tuck him up in his pram he will sleep through it.

alicet · 06/11/2010 17:14

We haven't but there were several babies fast asleep in pushchairs at the fireworks we went to last night so YANBU.

No harm in giving it a try is there? Like you say you can always take him home if it doesn't work out

MumblingClothDoll · 06/11/2010 17:14

Well unless yo have baby ear defenders you ABU....you could damage his ears.

TrappedinSuburbia · 06/11/2010 17:16

I took ds when he was in his pram to fireworks, it was a proper display, so we were far enough away for it not to very loud.
yanbu.

ApocalypseCheese · 06/11/2010 17:17

Will she heck damage his ears, baby will be tucked up in blankets and I imagine cover will be pulled over hood ??

Honestly some people !! Hmm

DamselInDisgrace · 06/11/2010 17:17

We took DS2 to see the fireworks last year when he was about 10 weeks. I out him in the sling and he slept through the whole thing.

I took DS1 on his own this year because 14 month old DS2 doesn't like being kept up past his bedtime and makes a big fuss.

allstarsprincess · 06/11/2010 17:18

I am taking DS who is 14 weeks. DD used to sleep through them and I am hoping he will do the same. :)

Jojopumpkinmama · 06/11/2010 17:19

Carolondon - I took my DD to a wedding when she was three weeks old. There were fireworks at the end and she slept right through it. She opened her eyes for a very brief moment to check where she was but otherwise did not stir. Babies don't know what they need to be scared of so loud noises don't seem to bother them. We seem to learn to be annoyed by loud noises when we are trying to sleep as we get older!

Brrrrr - it's bloomin' chilly out there, though, so just wrap him up warm and enjoy the show!

YANBU

badfairy · 06/11/2010 17:25

I don't think it's unreasonable just might be undo-able. DS1 actually stayed through the display for the first time last year at the age of 4 ( previous years he started screaming the minute the bangs started so we had to leave) So instead of us all going this year and take the chance that DS2 will react the same ( and potentially ruin it for DS1) DS1 and Daddy are going to the display and DS2 and I will be staying in. If however, you are lucky enough to have a child who sleeps through anything then I'd say, wrap up warm and go for it !

carolondon · 06/11/2010 17:29

Thanks for the swift replies people. I will take him in a sling and see how it goes. Smile

AlpinePony · 06/11/2010 18:00

Don't let him light any Catherine wheels and he'll be fine.

belgo · 06/11/2010 18:02

Keep him in a sling, all wrapped up and cosy, and he'll be fine.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 06/11/2010 18:07

Just don't strap him to a rocket...

scottishmummy · 06/11/2010 18:26

last time weans strapped to rockets mentioned it got all litigious

NorbertDentressangle · 06/11/2010 18:29

DS slept through his first fireworks at 4 months old.

He was in a sling and didn't stir once
