Taking poorly DD to stay with friends

EmmalinaC · 06/11/2010 11:38

We're supposed to be staying with friends tonight, about an hours drive away.

DD2 aged 18 months is under the weather - cold symptoms, high temperature (38.4), off her food an generally a bit grumpy. She's had some calpol and perked up a bit.

Friends say they still want to see us, DH thinks we should go anyway. I'm not so sure... If she didn't have the high temp I'd probably think it was fine...

AIBU/pfb to keep her at home? Need to let them know by lunchtime if we decide to cancel!

I would go

gingernutlover · 06/11/2010 11:40

assuming you have told the friends about the high temp etc and they are happy for you to go then sure, its fine to go

gingernutlover · 06/11/2010 11:41

you could always come home again, it's oknly an hour

ChippingIn · 06/11/2010 11:49

If your friends are happy for you to go, I'd still go, there's nothing you can do any differently for her at home (if they're good friends and it sounds like they are!).

Bobbiesmum · 06/11/2010 11:57

I would be staying at home tbh. Don't feel you can give your dc full attention if you are socialising and poorly little ones need their Mummy!
I am a bit pathetic and soft though and know most of my friend would go.

colditz · 06/11/2010 11:58

If she throws up they will nopt thank you for it.

WinkyWinkola · 06/11/2010 12:00

I had this dilemma about a month ago. But my ds2 (aged 1) had vomited. Friends persuaded me to still visit them which I really regret because two days later, they were vomiting too! Eek. Don't do it.

kiwijesta · 06/11/2010 12:03

If they are good friends I'm sure they won't mind, we had a long weekend on a canal boat with our friends and their sick child, and it was fine!

LIZS · 06/11/2010 12:03

Can they come to you ? She'll probably be fine and sleep it off but may prefer to be in a familiar cot etc

taintedpaint · 06/11/2010 12:13

I wouldn't go. They might be glossing over the illness, but they won't be thanking you if they get it too. Be good friends and make the decision for them.

musicmadness · 06/11/2010 12:35

As long as she hasn't vomited I'd go.

clam · 06/11/2010 12:42

I'd go. There's nothing you can do for her at home that you couldn't do there. If they're good mates, then they'll understand if you spend the evening with her zonked on your shoulder. And if she's perking up with Calpol then you can keep her dosed and reasonably happy.

EmmalinaC · 06/11/2010 17:29

Thanks for all the replies. We decided not to go in the end. After her nap her temp was up to 39 degrees and she was really snuffly and grumpy. Didn't really seem fair on her or anyone else!
