Because the tradition of bonfires at the start of winter goes back way before the capture of the catholic conspirators?... Bonfires were originally 'bone fires' made by the Celts from animal bones to ward off evil spirits. Fawkes and the lads mean we add explosions to the mix and stick effigies on the fires.
