to be sad I have to correct my son?

Feeling sad that DS2 is a big boy at big school now :(

He is 4.3 and just started Reception. He has some lovely, cute 'wrong' words which we've not corrected up until now. He speaks beautifully but the odd mistake sounds so cute and once corrected they are gone forever. As he's learning to read I've had to give in and tell him the right words. :(

Tonight we've had to get rid of 'Humbrella' as we're practising U and the picture didn't match the sound Blush

Anyone else pine after the day of cute toddler mistakes? AIBU to miss them?

"Flee"

One of anything is clearly ONE,

Two, straight forward enough, it's more than ONE.

But

FLEE...

Flee meant many, many, many

Then there was 'Art.
Heard very shortly after a long loud noise from DH in bedroom one morning. DH completely clueless as to what DS had said. Daddy Art.

...til I reminded him that DS couldn't say his F's. Grin

Eyebrows were eyebruces and elephants were eluckalucks.

drivingmisscrazy · 05/11/2010 22:49

will miss DD's elentants (elephants), crockos (crocodiles) and plee-oh (pillow). She's 21 months old

LittleMissHissingFirecracker · 05/11/2010 22:51

mamos..... said repeatedly and increasingly more insistent upon sight of...

Another one, 'last night' is used to talk about anything that happened in the past - which foxes the girls at his nursery when he tells them 'last night we went on an airplane' and 'last night we went swimming' - they thought we had a very active social life for a while Hmm

LOL these are brilliant - kids really do say the funniest things :o

CoinOperatedGirl · 05/11/2010 22:59

My 4yo ds wants some new willy boots .

bandgeek · 05/11/2010 23:02

My dd is 4.6 and still mispronounces lots of words such as like-ed and shaushages. She turned to me tonight when we were looking at the fireworks and said 'I'm exciting to see the fireworks' Smile

I'll really miss them when she says them correctly. Sad

MumInBeds · 05/11/2010 23:03

I used to love putting dd's hair in "flats" - we are all still partial to a "matmoomar" (satsuma) in this house though.

echt · 05/11/2010 23:07

I tell you, it never goes away.

DD is 15 now, and we still refer to ni-nis (knickers) on occasion.

Miss vegbetles, hostipal, wossy (horse), cacky (duck).

ghoulishglendawhingesagain · 05/11/2010 23:10

DD is quite partial to a pretty dress. I watched a bit of Strictly with her and she said

'That is the beautiest dress I ever seen'

She is 3.7. I already miss the made up words she used to have - my favourite was Gar-goy (goldfish)

ChippingIn · 05/11/2010 23:45

It is sad when they grow out of them and even sadder when you have to teach it out of them :( It's so good to get them on video!

Manda25 · 05/11/2010 23:51

My son still calls my dad Bubba. He is 8 now and I have no idea where it came from. I wont correct him as i think it's lovely.

DreamTeamGirl · 05/11/2010 23:55

Ds is very proud that he is a 'remember' on Club Penguin Smile

And he still goes to hopsital

Cinnamonthecat · 06/11/2010 00:06

We had gril-lala instead of gorilla, among many others, really missing those days. some of them have made their way into the family lexicon and will remain there forever..

blackeyedsusan · 06/11/2010 00:23

thought we had more or less left this behind til 2 days ago when dd told me you put 'breaked up' cheese on a pizza.

miss the onjies (oranges)

now getting first words emerging from ds, na-na
(banana)

ds a whizz at phonics age 2? ids sounds wonderfully? (o-ff o-n a-m (ham)) no just taking ages to learn to speak.

fairybaby · 06/11/2010 00:58

I miss "butterby" as in butterfly and "po po po na time",for once upon a time

Joolyjoolyjoo · 06/11/2010 01:03

I am praying that his sister's attempts to correct ds's "diceynors" to dinosaurs fail (so far, so good!)

He told me the other day that I was "making his feelings sore" when I told him off!

earwicga · 06/11/2010 01:12

I loved Jemima Injuries. Sounds so much better than minor injuries. Unfornuately on one of our very frequent visits the mistake was noticed.

Thruaglassdarkly · 06/11/2010 01:15

My big girl is 6 and I still say "aminals" when we are talking (her version) instead of animals. It was only recently that we stopped referring to her uniform as her "Fionium". We stopped it when she did. There are only a few words she still mixes up now. Enjoy his childhood errors whilst he makes them. They'll soon correct themselves. It's not so important to get the phonics bang on accurate at 4. He'll be spending the next few years on these sounds.

DooinMeCleanin · 06/11/2010 02:31

Dd2 does not only have cute words, she has a whole language all of her own. It was very endearing when DH visited me with dd2 while I was work to tell me "Dd2 will not ink hers mook until she has a aween waw and I don't know what a aween waw is. But I have gathered that is it not her Gabby Goo cup"

I don't want hers to learn imbglish. Sad

MrsRhettKilledTheButler · 06/11/2010 02:49

dd is in reception now and is realising these things.. :( she has finally accepted that Nick jr is not Mick jr because she read it for herself.... (of course, mummy can't be trusted, she needs to see it with her own eyes for it to be true Hmm )

DinahRod · 06/11/2010 03:00

DD says hippa-hoppa-muss, we haven't corrected it

Ds asked what a cum-twat is (kumquat) and yes we did!

notevenasparkler · 06/11/2010 03:36

I love my DD calling my aunt "Aunty Calorine" (Caroline) - we've all started doing it! We have gracelets too and the weekly bus ticket is a megariser.

We still refer to squirrels as doodles (me) and animals as aminals (my sister).
