i have been roped into taking my 7 month old dd to fireworks tonight, against my gut feeling- she'll hate it.

i was wondering if anyone knows how i might make baby ear defenders, blue peter style, out of household items? i can sew- a bit!

AIBU?

big fluffy hat pulled low you could wear her in a sling and cosy her up in your coat.

Or develope a bad stomach?

Tidey · 05/11/2010 15:46

Don't suppose you've got a Primark handy? I've just bought DD a pair of fluffy earmuffs, to keep her ears warm and to muffle to sounds a bit.

emptyshell · 05/11/2010 15:47

Big thick woolly hat, coat with hood pulled up over the top, cuddle her up close and stick your hands over her ears when the really annoying bangedy-bangedy-bang-bang-bang ones I used to hate as a kid go off.

laweaselmys · 05/11/2010 15:47

Has she got a hat with ear flaps?

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 05/11/2010 15:49

You could roll up some cotton wool into small balls then insert them into her ears along with a hat that pulls down over her ears?

Shodan · 05/11/2010 15:53

Have you got a stocking? You could roll up two small socks into pads, insert them into stocking at strategic points, then tie around her head? Or crepe bandage with socks over ears?

Or make headband out of tights or something? Actually, if she's got tights, could you pop the waistband over her head, then tie the legs round and under her chin?

Remember to take photos of half these suggested ideas - perfect material for when future boyfriends come to visit!

scurryfunge · 05/11/2010 16:01

Tie oven gloves round her head Grin

HelenVictoriaS · 05/11/2010 16:05

For firework displays I used to pop my children into a front facing sling when they were small and then cover their ears with my hands- they then have the added security of being close to you.

thanksl= all heehee... no shops close by but i will make something during next nap and report back!

am laughing out loud at Shodan's suggestions - brilliant and inspired! Wish I'd thought of that, I love fireworks and have had to wait until youngest would tolerate them, she's 6 this year but finally LOVES them! Hurrah and OOOO and AHHHH! (no sparklers though, both kids have had the fear of god put into them by public service broadcasting! hi hum probably for the best)

katkit · 07/11/2010 21:29

well in the end dd didn;t want er nap so i resorted to putting fishnets over her head and tying the legs under her chin... but it all proved unnecessary as she wasn't scared!
