Walking back from the school run, a woman was driving down the road, with her daughter in the front seat (child about 6 or 7) with no car seat or seatbelt on, and she had to slam on her brakes and the child hit the windscreen and cracked it ShockAngry

She got out of the car, checked the windscreen and got back in and drove off, didnt even put the seat belt around her daughter.

I wrote down her number plate and phoned the police, the call handler/police officer said that it will be logged.

I am so Angry FFS car seats are not that expensive for 6/7 yr olds.

no they were driving down the road, I was walking down the road, but stopped half way down the road to cross to the other side. Hope that makes sense.

Sorry, I'm probably getting confused.

You're on a hill ?

And you refer to directions along the road as being up/down ?

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 08/11/2010 21:36

Have just come onto this, but am also confused. In an earlier post you said "Little girl had a jacket/coat on so couldnt see a uniform, there are a few primary schools locally so could be anyone of them, plus some primary schools dont insist on uniforms" but now you've just said "she was driving away from the school i was walking home from, and i would of recognised her, its a small school in that everyone knows everyone else"

Maybe I need my bed..Confused

Anyway, hope the Police caught up with her.

tots2ten · 08/11/2010 21:54

Maisie I meant she was driving in the opposite direction of the school I had been too. Locally we have about 4 or 5 primary schools including the one my dcs are at. so they could of been going to any one of the others.

The road slopes down, and I was walking down the car was also driving down the road, as i was trying to cross I had to look 'up' the road and thats when i saw the car coming towards me (right hand side of me)

hope that makes more sense

Unbelievable!

redflag · 08/11/2010 22:11

You did the right thing, next time she drives past a police car that has numberplate recognition, she will be pulled over, they will tell her why and hopefully the will catch her in the act and she will be reprimanded.

SixtyFootDoll · 08/11/2010 22:17

You absolutely did th right thing.
The Police will follow up and will def pass onto social services.
And as redflag states her number will now be flagged

edam · 08/11/2010 22:19

Good grief! Of course you did the right thing. Hope very much the poor girl is OK and the police contact social services.

mumbar · 08/11/2010 22:31

Of course you did the right thing.

Hope police catch up with this mum soon and her DD is OK.

cumfy · 10/11/2010 20:32

Are you sure that someone didn't throw a stone at the car ?

DanceInTheDark · 10/11/2010 20:40

I hope the DD is ok :(

taintedpaint · 10/11/2010 20:45

Wow, this is just awful! You definitely did the right thing OP.

tots2ten · 11/11/2010 05:54

cumfy I was the only person walking on the road. As she drove past me there was no crack in the windscreen.

cumfy · 11/11/2010 10:13

Sounds like someone threw a stone/object.

The car has travelled a not inconsiderable distance further after passing you (with time for you to check in the opposite direction), plus the braking distance. You then near a bang/crack over the braking noise.

This seems more consistent with a missile than an internal collision within the vehicle.

A child could have done this from behind a parked vehicle.

cumfy · 11/11/2010 10:23

Clearly any inspection of the windscreen would show whether it was an internal/external object that caused the damage.

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 11/11/2010 12:08

Regardless of speculation as to whether there was or wasn't a stone thrown by a child hiding behind a parked vehicle, the child inside the car was not wearing a seatbelt and was flung forward towards the windscreen. The parent, after inspecting the damage, the drove off again without securing her DD in place with a seatbelt.

tots2ten · 11/11/2010 13:01

cumfy the car was travelling towards a junction, there were no parked cars or no hiding places for anyone to have thrown anything at the car.

see my post: Fri 05-Nov-10 08:57:45

"I saw her driving past me as I was going to cross the road, and noticed that the little girl was sitting far fowarded in the front and that the seatbelt was not around her. Then i looked down the road to see if anything was coming I saw and heard her brake and seen the little girl go forward and heard a bang and crack and could see the windscreen had cracked."

To cross the road I looked up the road (and saw this car coming towards me the car in question) as she was driving past me I looked down the road to make sure it was safe for me to cross. Other than the dog walking into the road, there was no other person/car/animal to be seen.
