not letting my Mother look after my daughter?

My Mother keeps asking when she can look after my daughter and I don't want her to. She lives by herself and has something wrong with her knee, every so often it'll just go out from under her. Last year it happened in the back yard, she fell backwards and hit her head off the brick outhouse. This is a regular thing, two or three times a month.

I don't want to leave my daughter with her incase that happens, she's only 12 weeks old and needs to be carried, what if she fell while she was holding her?

I'm not prepared to risk my daughters well being just to satisfy her selfish need. She's driving me mad.

GruffalosGirl - looking after a child and looking at a child are two different things, you form a different (and better) bond with a child you look after and not just at. It is normal to want to look after a grandchild on your own - you are implying there is 'something sinister or at least 'not right' about it and that's not true (in general).

HappyKittie - really, the 'dropping' her are the least of your issues with her. The shouting alone would have me telling her that if she does it again, she wont be seeing her GD until she can control her temper! I would also tell her up front that shouting at her DGD and hitting you are the reasons she will not be having her GD on her own - ever.

Happykittie - oh my god I am sorry to say this but your ma sounds like a selfish nightmare! Hitting you! Shouting at your baby! She is being totally selfish in wanting to look after baby when she could fall and cause serious injury to baby! And the 'she's my baby too' remark! WTF is that all about! YANBU at all and please don't leave ur baby with her!

Good luck
