to think that sparkly Remembrance Day Poppies are a bit disrespectful?

I was bit uncomfortable to see sparkly remembrance day poppies on Holly Willoughby and the loose women today.

I think its a bit disrespectful, its not a fashion accessories its a mark of remembrance for those who have given their lives.

Not disrespectful, but utterly, utterly naff

bigchris · 02/11/2010 14:37

As long as people contribute to the cause by buying them I don't see the problem

Sarsaparilllla · 02/11/2010 14:38

All the donations still go to the same charity so if it means more people buy them and wear them I don't see the issue.

ThighsBurntOnABigRocket · 02/11/2010 14:38

I quite like them. I understand where you are coming from with the mark of respect, but they do look nice.

The problem I have with them though, is that they are a 'one off payment' and I like to donate money each year in return for my poppy, as it is a charitable thing, and if you buy a sprakly one, you no longer need to donate each year.

ClaireDeLoon · 02/11/2010 14:38

I think they're a bit distateful. Surely the point is to donate to RBL as well as to show remembrance so how is buying sparkly tat helping with that. Or do the RBL get a cut?

ShatnersBassoon · 02/11/2010 14:39

I have no problem with it. It might look tacky, but it's publicising the cause.

LaurieScaryCake · 02/11/2010 14:41

They're £80 and as far as I know the money goes to the charity.

If it does it's a great way to give money.

curlymama · 02/11/2010 14:44

Don't the RBL sell them? If so, they would get a cut, but I found out recently that they have a policy of not putting a price on any of their poppys. (car ones, window stickers etc)

I think it is slightly distasteful, but I'd rather see people wearing spearly poppys than none at all. And it's got to be better than a poppy that is a bit screwed up after being worn and squashed for a week. But that is something I always do and then feel very guilty about Blush

They are endorsed by and sold by the RBL, the money goes to them - you can get a range of poppy products including some limited edition ones on their website.

I have been knitting poppies and making a donation for every one I make to the RBL. I also have a small enamel one that I bought years ago and I still make a donation every year. I used to lose so many pin poppies and those stick on ones just fall off.
