I need to know if this is a viable idea. Prices would be reasonable but I am aware of the stigma of doorstep sellers?

Would you buy from me if I came a calling?

OP posts:
JarethTheGoblinKing · 01/11/2010 20:42

sorry, no. Personally I don't buy on the door (especially if they come calling after 5pm)

VinegarTits · 01/11/2010 20:43

all the door to door sellers round here are druggies selling stolen goods, but i do live on a sink estate

why not sell on ebay or get a market stall?

MaDuggar · 01/11/2010 20:45

Nope, no way, Id never buy on my doorstep.

thisisyesterday · 01/11/2010 20:45

well i generally really dislike doorstep sellers. puts me on the spot and i am likely to say no

if what you had was very nice quality or a bit different i might.

memoo · 01/11/2010 20:45

I would never buy at the door either, I would assume the item had been nicked, but maybe thats just because of the area I live in

SeaTrek · 01/11/2010 20:47

YABU, I absolutely hate doorstep selling.

I also don't wrap presents with paper - I use drawstring fabric bags.

GailFawkes · 01/11/2010 20:47

No I wouldn't buy from the doorstep either, sorry Sad

JarethTheGoblinKing · 01/11/2010 20:49

Kleeneze and the like are basically door-to-door selling, aren't they, but they've taken away the confrontational aspect by leaving a catalogue that people can peruse in their own time, rather than feeling pressured to make a decision on the door.

Would setting up a simple website be an option? Then you could drop cards door-to-door with the URL, offering free local delivery? If you have or know someone with the skills it might be an idea?

ConnorTraceptive · 01/11/2010 20:52

no sorry really really hate people selling anything at the door.

perhaps try car boot sales or setting up a stall at mums and tots groups

PGWomble · 01/11/2010 20:58

I wouldn't either- sorry.

MrsJohnDeere · 01/11/2010 21:01

No, I hate door to door selling.

taintedpaint · 01/11/2010 21:08

I wouldn't buy either, I just don't like people showing up on my doorstep like that. But Jareth has a good idea, if you could pop cards of leaflets through doors you may get a different response.

dementedma · 01/11/2010 21:10

"I use drawstring fabric bags" - get you!

muggglewump · 01/11/2010 21:12

What is wrap?

I might buy it, but I can't if I don't know what it is.

Appletrees · 01/11/2010 21:15

Oh flip. Do you know what, I probably would. Cheap and cheerful, definitely, and not if you've got bad taste!

I hate doorsteps too but this is slightly different ..everyone knows how much wrapping paper is, they can do an immediate mental price comparison, plus, it's cheap. You can buy a couple of quids worth and even if you don't need it, the bank is hardly broken.

If you can do it during the day then even better.

Good for you. Good luck with what you decide.

irishqueen · 01/11/2010 21:16

I prob would if you looked respectable enough
and the price was right

Appletrees · 01/11/2010 21:17

ha ha on the fabric bags

that sounds a bit po and pi at teh same time!

LynetteScavo · 01/11/2010 21:19

I never have any spare cash on me, so no I wouldn't.

What about a toddler group/NCT coffee morning? You could give them 10% of profits (or what ever they charge) for having a table set up for a morning/afternoon.

Also, there are loads of craft fairs around at this time of year.

QuoththeRaven · 01/11/2010 21:34

i probably would :) hardly breaking the bank and you weren't harrassing me like some do

ForMashGetSmash · 01/11/2010 21:38

If you were all jolly and smiling with a selection of rolls or packets in your hand and a festive hat on then I would yes. I hate carrying it home! I suggestyou go in daylight hours though...I dont open up after dark.

Alambil · 01/11/2010 21:40

No, I wouldn't - I buy all mine in January

PaisleyLeaf · 01/11/2010 21:43

I wouldn't buy at the door - it only encourages them.

virgin · 01/11/2010 21:48

No I wouldnt buy wrapping paper at the door. And what on earth is the 'drawstring fabric bag' business? PMSL!

No i wouldn't. I don't buy (or even answer the door to) door to door people.

Christmas wrap is an odd thing to go selling too. I get super cheap stuff in any case. And wouldn't it get wet if you are stood on a doorstep showing off or patterns or whatever.
