To not peel the potatoes?

Hedgeblunder · 01/11/2010 18:30

Dp has just asked if I fancy helping him make the shepards pie by peeling the potatoes..
I said 'no thanks!'
I have literally been on hands and knees scrubbing the kitchen floor, cleaned the house from top to bottom, done a load of washing, baked him his favourite cake and cook 80% of the time.
He has been lazy working from home all day by 'testing' his new apple laptop thingy. I think he can manage a shepards pie.
But now I'm feeling a tad guilty hearing him bash his way around the kitchen
iabu to leave him get on with it?

Never peel spuds. Wash them and boil them in their skins. Best bit.

But no, YANBU Grin

YANBU

Unless, of course, after a hard days work (actual work that is!) he always comes home and peels potatoes for you to make tea with.

In which case you're only being a bit unreasonable.

tell him he's cooking so he needs to cook and pour yourself a glass of wine and put your feet up

Lollipop- ahahahahahhaaha aahahahha
ahem, no that never happens (not that I mind)

I shall take your advice wholeheartedly.

You may want to let him know that the washing up's his responsibility as well - otherwise he'll use every single pan and leave them all for you...

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 01/11/2010 18:39

The goodness in a potatoe is in the skin!!

SuePurblybilt · 01/11/2010 18:40

glug indeed. And echo lollipop's sage washing up advice.

lollipopshoes · 01/11/2010 18:41

ordinarily I'd agree, amothersplaceisinthewrong, but you can't make shepherd's pie without peeling some spuds.

Well, you could but I doubt Mr. Hedge would be up to it Wink

roomonthebroom · 01/11/2010 18:41

YANBU at all. I've sneaked away an am pretending to do 'important e-mails' while DH peels ours. I might slope into the kitchen in about 20 minutes to see if he needs any help, by which time dinner should almost be ready :o

Hedgeblunder · 01/11/2010 18:41

Good point amother - I'm helping by not peeling, I only have his best interests at heart

I never peel potatoes for mash because I'm lazy the goodness is in the skin.

lollipopshoes · 01/11/2010 18:43

plumm - do you just mash the spuds with the skins then? so you've got ribbony bits of skin in your mash?

misdee · 01/11/2010 18:43

get him this

cut potatoes up, in skins, boil until done, push through this gadget, hoik the skins out with a fork, repeat till all potatoes done. add milk, butter etc.

brilliant thing!

BeenBeta · 01/11/2010 18:47

Nope. I always do shepherds pie with mashed potato cooked with skin on.

Hedgeblunder · 01/11/2010 18:49

Oooh! I've never seen anything like it misdee!

I feel much better now!

UPDATE!
have just been in the kitchen to show willing -
dp has only peeled 2 potatoes so there is not enough for the whole pan
he has also added a pint of water to the pan so the mince appears to be swimming, he is also refusing to add gravy :(
he has also happily informed me he hasn't seasoned anything and my previously pristine kitchen now has bits of onion everywhere
blardy hell!
