Im not a killjoy, and I have bought sweets, lollies etc in and even put apples and carrots in the bowl for any healthy kids too...and I have answered the door everytime, making sure I've been in the house since 5pm for the younger children as the dogs bark EVERY TIME someone knocks on the door and I know it would be irritating for the neighbours...

My point is, now its getting later, the cute dressed up kids with their parents have turned into taller than me teenagers wearing normal clothes and a scream mask or scarf...The last one that knocked said 'halloween day' and held out his hand then tutted when I offered him haribo/apples, never said thankyou and as he left, threw the haribo packet at his friend waiting at the gate (Im pretty sure it will still be on the floor).

Is it just me being a moody 8 month pregnant witch or is this completely out of order? If I was elderly I would be quite intimidated by this type of behaviour!

I was going to throw our pumpkin at any troublesome jobs that attempted to mug me on my doorstep (as promised by the media). I feel he is a bit let down he didnt fulfil his destiny.

I think the best thing to do is put up a sign and either go out or pretend to be out if you really want to avoid trick or treaters.

However, I know people who have put up a sign and they got egged.

I also know people who have been egged when they've genuinely not been in to answer the door despite it being pitch black and obvious no one was home.

People say to stick to the pumpkin etiquette but I have a friend who went to a house with a pumpkin and they didn't answer the door despite obviously being in Hmm

Also if it's just the getting up and down that you can't be arsed to do but you don't actually have anything against giving out sweets to trick or treaters, a good thing to do is put out a carrier bag of sweets (wouldn't risk putting a bowl out incase it got stolen unless you used a disposable one) with a sign saying please take one each and leave some for the next people.
