Further from the shop?
The last couple of times I've been to the supermarket with children in tow I've seen

  1. A young women talking on her mobile sitting on her own in her car which was in the P&T space nearest to the shop 2)Two able-bodied, childless young women come back to their car, get in and drive off. 3)A man sitting, obviously waiting for someone to come back while two boys (8 & 10ish) sat in the back.

Meanwhile, I end up having to park in an ordinary space and struggle to get my 3 children out of the car (I would go on my own normally but DH is working 12 hours, 6 days of the week s not around to look after them).

AIBU to think that if the P&T spaces were further from the shop less people would use them who don't need them. Walking a bit doesn't bother me. Trying to get 20 month old DD into her carseat while squeezing between my car and a big van parked right on the white line(as happened the other day, I erm 'rearranged' the mirrorsGrin but that's another AIBU) does.

Erm....where would the pushchair go whilst I push the trolley?

Sue52 have messaged you

piscesmoon · 30/10/2010 17:25

They just need room to open the doors-they don't need to be near the doors to the shop although I think it would help if they were in a place with no roads to cross.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 30/10/2010 17:32

We used to manage without in the old days [gimmer] And we had car seats and 3 under 5s and everything.

But yes agree with OP if we're stuck with P&T move them further away.

purplewednesday · 30/10/2010 17:37

Sainsburys state that the P&T spaces are for under 12s. That is ridiculous. That means secondary school age children (year 7) can use it. The spaces are for people struggling with car seats an dtoddlers with no road sense.

I get really irritated when i see people sat in the car in a P&T space with their children, while presumably the other parent has nipped into the shop.

Its selfish.

Why not shop online and save all the hassle of parking?

i think it is absolutely dreadful when people park in special child parking spaces when they do not have children unless it is very late at night and no one is around.

it is just being selfish and inconsiderate and it used to make me angry. i don't need those spaces now and i would be ashamed to park in one.

Didn't have them until my youngest was 4 however they used to allow those with disabled children to use them as well you needed to register with them. Was a godsend when DS was younger as he was so dangerous near any road.

2shoescreepingthroughblood · 30/10/2010 18:39

but riv, the babies melt you know

taintedpaint · 30/10/2010 18:47

Yep Riven, same at my nearest Tesco. At my nearest Asda, I think the spaces are closer, but the P&T spaces and the disabled ones are significantly closer than any other spaces so it's not so much of an issue.

maxybrown · 30/10/2010 18:52

Yes Riven same at one near my Mum actually and I do remember saying to Dh they seem to have that the wrong way round

i used to do that(although I use a disabled bay when dd is with me, or a P &T bay, no way am I pushing a 15 year old further than I have too) if you ask at customer services they get a lad to push your trolley, and it is fun when you have to go to the female bit

PosieComeHereMyPreciousParker · 30/10/2010 19:15

Fucking hell, there are no medals for making ones life more difficult than it has to be. P&T spaces exist and I use them. I wouldn't dream of pushing a heavy trolley and a pushchair, but then I am 5'1" and find a trolley difficult enough and the trolleys with the room for a car seat I can't see over.

Disabled spaces are quite different.

that is why you use the spaces nearer riv, that way you get the glares and can then shop quicker.

I reckon they put the P&T ones nearer in some shops, so that the wheelchair users can run the small children over, it is most likely just a new sport we haven't heard of.

ThePumpkinofDoomandTotalChaos · 30/10/2010 19:21

public transport saves most of the car park hassle I found.

oh but that is fun, I love it, (back when I had a car not a WAV) I would leap out and run to the back, people would glare at me, then I would get the wheelchair out, they soon stopped:o
as for P&T I have rarely parked in them, but would if I had too, and I wouldn't give ashit if someone didn't like it.
obviously when on my own(or with dh or ds) I park in a normal space
