you come across a family who dresses all their offspring in the same clothes?

Why o why?

It just looks a so contrived and playing for an audience.

These DCs are indivviduals aren't they?

a whole section of matching families

kickassangel · 30/10/2010 03:03

actually, my gran had a late 'surprise' in life & had twins, just a few years before my mum had my sister, then me.

being the thrifty type (and having been indoctrinated by ww2 propaganda) my gran passed anoraks (the blue quilted kind) down for me & dsis to wear, and would then buy the same again for the twins. so sometimes, there would be my twin aunts, dsis & i ALL in the same jackets, and, of course we look similar.

but that was the 70s, when we all wore white knee high socks and there was no such thing as fashion.

saffy85 · 30/10/2010 08:27

My grandad used to buy me, my sister and two of our girl cousins matching outfits. Most were awful Blush but I happen to think my two year old self looked rather cute in the sailor outfit, complete with matching hat. The eight year old cousin and the two 5 year olds, not so much.

mummynumber2 · 30/10/2010 08:33

My mum quite often brings up the story of how every year her mum would knit matching jumpers for both her parents and her brother, sister and her which they called the 'holiday jumpers'. I think she is still traumatised by it!

IHeartKingThistle · 30/10/2010 08:44

My mum used to dress my sister and I the same, it was quite common backalong wasn't it? My sister is 2 years younger and rebelled against it way before I did Blush. My grandma also used to make us matching knitted school stuff. I have got to learn to knit...

IHeartKingThistle · 30/10/2010 08:46

the secondcoming we have the stripy problem too - I guess I just like stripes! People have started commenting on it when they see photos though. Maybe it's time to embrace polka dots?

smokinpumpkins · 30/10/2010 08:55

My boys often get dressed the same. They are 4 and 2, and like wearing the same thing. Like others it is also very handy when we are out and about to keep an eye on them/tell someone what they're wearing if they go missing.

Not sure I'd do it with more than 2. My 2 sisters and I were often dressed the same for occasions like weddings/christenings, and similar (i.e. same outfit different colours) at other times. Only under age of 10 from memory though.

minxofmancunia · 30/10/2010 08:57

I often find and that me and dd inadvertantly look the same Blush even down to our hair!(the other day stripy jumpers skinny jeans and knee boots, plus hair in ponytails)

6 children woman at church dresses herself anf her children (5 girls 1 boy) all v similar. All the girls apart from the baby have long white blonde hair in plaits and wear pink frilly dresses. their mum looks the same....and slightly deranged.

mnistooaddictive · 30/10/2010 08:57

I am still laughing at Kickassangels last sentence. There was no such thing as fashion. My bro and I often had matching cardigans.

valiumskeleton · 30/10/2010 09:43

That's so true. I swear I only became vaguely vaguel aware of fashion in 1981.

whatdoiknowanyway · 30/10/2010 09:55

omg KurriKurri - that could have been my family. My mum knit summer holiday jumpers for 5 kids and 2 parents in same pattern and colour. Following year same pattern but we got to choose our own colour. And our names all (bar one) began with the same letter.
As I child I liked the fact that people looked at us and commented. As an adult, not so much Blush

KurriKurri · 30/10/2010 10:41

whatdoiknow - the family I knew was a lovely family (4 boys,1 girl - ring any bells? Grin), I always wondered if the names starting with the same letter was to save on labels in school uniform - just needed to put 'A.Smith' in everything.

whatdoiknowanyway · 30/10/2010 10:57

Nope not us- different b g permutations.
We were lovely though Smile

mummynumber2 · 30/10/2010 11:02

I knew a very large family (I think there were 6 or 7 children) who all had the same initial. I recently came across one of them on facebook and found out that he is now going by a different 1st name. Obviously it wasn't for him!

Psychommead · 30/10/2010 11:14

I was shopping the other day and saw a woman and her 4ish year old daughter dressed identically. Knee high flats, tights, mini- skirt and sweater. Even the same scarf and hairstyle.

I thought it looked a bit odd, but the little girl was looking so proud and was walking along looking like she was feeling about 10 feet tall so I couldn't help but smile at them.

I know a woman with twins who dresses them identically. Practical, but bloody impossible to tell them apart!

NewOrImproved · 30/10/2010 11:28

My friend fondly remembers her and her sister trying ot get Mum to join in with their dressing-the-same Grin

Oldjolyon · 30/10/2010 21:40

I agree it looks awful.

Unfortunately, I have two DDs who like to dress the same so that "everyone knows that they are sisters". The fact that facially they are very similar means nothing to them. So I often end up with two girls dressed in almost identical outfits, and people thinking that I've dressed them that way! When in reality, I try to avoid it at all costs.
