to want a dishwasher?

I live on nmy own, so not much washing up but I HATE it. I HATE it. I would rather clean the bathroom than do it. I soak stuff then forget about it and come back to cold dirty water with bits floating in it.

Would I be really lazy to get one? Just a wee £140 one.

YANBU!

The bastid things dont unpack themselves, but its not a "messy" job at least.

And the dishes are dry and ready to put away, which you have to do anyway if you do it by hand.

Get one!

PavlovtheWitchesCat · 29/10/2010 21:30

a wee one uses almost as much water, and the same amount of electricity as a full sized one. So get a full sized one Grin you will be amazed how quickly you could fill it up!

We got one when DD was born, so as to free up a bit of time/arguing. It is probably one of the top things I could NOT live without now.
But I agree, its a pain that it does not empty itself. DH and I, instead of arguing about whose turn it is to wash up/put away now argue about who will unload it Grin

Deemented · 29/10/2010 21:31

YANBU.

I don't know how i lived without mine - well, actually i do, i'd say i was going to do the dishes, manshape would say that he'd do them in a bit, and i'd end up doing them myself in the morning...

So. I got mine from ebay. Best £20 i ever spent!

TheDailyWail · 29/10/2010 21:32

Pavlov - get 2 and find something else to argue about! Grin

giraffescantdookforapples · 29/10/2010 21:33

I have no space :( So will have to be a small one.

YANBU.

In our last house we had no room for a dishwasher. The day we moved in here, we went immediately to Currys and bought one, I refused to be without one for a single day longer than I needed to.

You can unload in the time it takes to boil the kettle for a cuppa - about the same length of time it takes to run a bowl of hot water to even start the washing up!

Buy it now [hgrin]

suzikettles · 29/10/2010 21:34

YANBU. We've not really got the space for one, or the money to buy one but I'm really, really trying to think of a way round both of these problems...

I've had a look on Gumtree and there seems to be a lot of secondhand ones about. Not sure how reliable secondhand would be but god it's tempting.

mamalovesmojitos · 29/10/2010 21:37

YANBU i got one a few months ago, it is FANTASTIC and i have never regretted it.

buy one and enjoy it - life is too short not to.

TattyDevine · 29/10/2010 21:39

That's true what Alibaba says - it seems like a big faff, but its because you are spoilt!

emptyshell · 29/10/2010 21:42

I wouldn't be without mine.

I can suffer the loss of two desperately wanted pregnancies within the space of 4 months... the dishwasher looked like it was packing up ...and I was considering bereavement counselling*. Thankfully my wonderful husband fixed it!

*Before anyone takes offence and slates me for the above comment - the losses actually devastated me, but I've got a naturally dark sense of humour and I'm now at the point of laughing through the despair of it all. If you don't like it - shove it up yer chuff-chuffs.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 29/10/2010 21:44

Tatty - despite knowing that I am still slatternly about unloading it and the next dirty load piles up around it Blush

But, when I do decide to do it, it is very very quick [hgrin]

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 29/10/2010 21:47

emptyshell - no shoving required here :) I hope you are blessed with a healthy baby very soon x

giraffescantdookforapples · 29/10/2010 21:48

Am used to using dishwashers everyday at work, dont mind putting it away at all as its clean and easy. I have always hated washing dishes. You are really persuading me.

Now can I buy one, get it delivered AND get someone to fit it (like up to the water etc) for me?! Im sure a company comet or currys maybe did that for my wahsing machine.

emptyshell · 29/10/2010 21:50

It's the fact they DO actually get the dishes and glasses really clean and sparkling so you can flounce around the kitchen pretending to be a domestic goddess that's the best bit.

Ours was a hand me down from MIL... you can all complain about MILs... MINE GAVE ME A DISHWASHER!

cakewench · 29/10/2010 21:52

"manshape" made me laugh. Grin

I'd love a dishwasher. Hopefully when we move.

giraffescantdookforapples · 29/10/2010 21:55

Heres a random question - Could I put it on a table? Or would it be safer on the work top?

OP posts:
CreeperSutherland · 29/10/2010 22:04

Oh god, get one.

Mine broke down last week and I nearly left home.
Worst. Week. Ever.

Think of the price-per-use. Pence. Worth it.

AnyFuleKno · 29/10/2010 22:07

I really want a dishwasher too but really struggling with where on earth to put one. Presume it would have to go on the same wall as plumbing for sink etc. I have a space where drawers are which might work for a slimline one but would mean a lot of faffing

TheMeow · 29/10/2010 22:10

YANBU, I would love one more than anything as I HATE washing dishes and have even said it would be acceptable for dh to get me one for Christmas, however he pointed out that to have a dishwasher would mean giving up the washing machine as my stupid old house has no room for both (sulks with pouty bottom lip) [hsad]

PavlovtheWitchesCat · 30/10/2010 06:56

themeow we are in an apartment with a kitchen you can't swing a cat in.

We got rid of a much needed cupboard to fit it in. I threw out many items of tatt essential kitchen ware in order to make space! Drastically re-organised how we store things and what we have in the kitchen. It HAD to be done.

Find a way! I bet you could if you were creative.

Bloodymary · 30/10/2010 10:46

GET ONE. I have only got a slimline one as thats all I have room for.
Just myself and little girl here, but I would not be without it. I still love that moment when you push the on button and then walk away!!

newlurker · 30/10/2010 18:54

YANBU
Get one - they are life changing. A boon for those who loathe washing up and also get things far cleaner than any human could.
We rented a house while we were waiting to move into one we had bought. No dishwasher - after 2 weeks we purchased and installed one because life without was unbearable.

theoldtrout01876 · 30/10/2010 18:58

I have a great dish washer, its names Mike :o and its 18 years old and when poked with a stick enough does a pretty good job

Good lord, you HAVE to have a dishwasher! They've even got water economy & power saving on their side, plus they wash up more hygienically. I live on my own. My full-sized dishwasher cost £45 on eBay [smug]
