I really do feel upset by it.

I think its because 1. i have lost a child
And 2. i have been in a train accident.

I am really upset, Please snap me out of it Shock

I'm fine with level crossings (because I'm not a muppet who tries to rush the lights - and hubby used to live in a village split by one so you HAD to get used to dealing with it), but I've got an utterly irrational fear of going over tram crossings.

They're like trains but sneaky and quiet. Bit of a bugger when you live in a city with a decent tram network really!

redflag · 30/10/2010 16:49

Don't blame you, either of you trams are a bloody scary thing too. I would have been the same always checking, would probably become an obsession.

When i was 17 i fell in the gap when a train was on the move, broke my hips, so i have flash backs sometimes.

I am getting chills now :(

YANBU Sad.

There are certain story lines that come up a lot and it reminds me of a bad time and it is hard.

redflag · 30/10/2010 16:54

Phipps, do you think they consider the viewers in cases like this, Obviously i am not saying any issues should be "banned" but do you think its a consideration?

OP posts:
phipps · 30/10/2010 16:59

I think they think it will help but tbh I awm never sure how they think it will.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 30/10/2010 17:04

I think they pretend to consider:

"If you were affected by any of the issues in this programme please phone the BBC advice line..."

redflag · 30/10/2010 17:04

I think certain Real life situations they recreate can be helpful, but this one was a cliff hanger a lot of people could have been upset by, they should have finished it in that episode.

I don't really think anything should be out of bounds, but not concluding is out of order in my opinion.

Like i said, i know not a lot of people have been hit by a train and survived, but some like me have. Not that i think i should have been considered at all, but Hmm ...

Yeah i have noticed that at the end of every episode recently. A sign of more hard hitting story lines? Possibly.

I don't think it is a sign of more hard hitting story lines.

LittlebearH · 30/10/2010 17:40

Since having a child this year, I cannot stand to watch or read about anything where children have or may come to harm. Real or not.

It makes me feel anxious and in some cases upset.

I know that soaps try to be realistic or come up with new storylines but to involve children I find it unnecessary.

However this may be just me as I also know I am very sensitive by nature!

MumBarTheDoorZombiesAreComing · 30/10/2010 17:45

Sorry for your loss and the accident redflag.

YANBU I guess when you spend 2 hrs a week watching these people it is quite close to home - I see some friends less Smile

They are fine tho, Janine does try and bump off hubby again according to magazines.

BBC are good tho as they understand people can be affected by the programme and offer advice line.

emptyshell · 30/10/2010 17:55

But where does it stop if you cut all the stories people might be upset by? I'd be flamed to a crisp on here if I suggested things like the recent Waterloo Road infertility storyline were pulled... but they reduced me to tears because of my circumstances - I don't start demanding and screaming that every baby/pregnancy/miscarriage related story is pulled... I just reach for the remote. The two groups usually safe in soaps anyway are the babies and the pets - they're the line they don't tend to cross with killing characters off!

I do get annoyed when people can't exercise some self-censorship and turn over when something upsets them though.

phipps · 30/10/2010 18:06

I use the mute button or turn over when it is something I find hard to deal with but I sometimes wonder if that means I am running away from things and really need to face up to it.

fsmail · 30/10/2010 18:16

It always gives me a headache. They are always shouting. Can tolerate Emmedale at a push.

redflag · 30/10/2010 19:42

Emptyshell, I didnt suggest they do cat these story lines, i have said i don't think anything should be off limits.
