Honestly. We made an offer and had it accepted on a house in May. Today it completed. The solicitor has just phoned to say they sent the money that was intended for the mortgage man to the fucking Halifax so could we pay him instead. Course we can't you stupid bint, we don't have the odd 2.5k knocking about.
GRRRRR. Very angry.

Complain to the law society. Incompetent idiots. YANBU.

ajandjjmum · 29/10/2010 17:42

Can you transfer it online?

Is it holding up you moving in?

What a prat!!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 29/10/2010 17:43

I intend to complain to someone and you've just answered my next question of who it should be.
On top of that, I've just had a call from the letting agents to say the vendor took the cooker and left the place filthy. We need to rent it out as part of our mortgage agreement, so now we need to have it cleaned an buy a bloody cooker Sad Angry

Kreecher - can you negotiate paying less sols fees because of the cock-up??

Or just tell them to get the money back and forward it to the mortgage man. It is their mistake, make them rectify it.

Definitely complain to the Law Society asap, it's poor practice and there are very strict rules about handling money. My mum had terrible trouble with a certain law firm - who later were closed down by the Law Society for poor practice.

Also complain to the practice manager or the owner of the law firm. This will support your complaint to the Law Society. Hope you get it sorted soon.

Oh and complaints to the Law Society can be done on-line via their website.

Money has already been paid to the solicitor (although it is actually a conveyancer).
Just really peeved at the moment. Still, DD not home for another hour and DH away till Sunday.
He can sort it out when he gets back. I am sooooo tired.

Still?! Can't believe your saga is still going on. However, sadly, I suppose that once something goes wrong, more is likely to go wrong, either because the parties are off balance or because the first thing going wrong was an indicator of thoroughgoing incompetence.

Can you ask them to put their stupid request in writing? Better yet, send them a letter/e-mail asking them to put it in writing, and cc it to everyone who might conceivably have an interest in the conclusion of this transaction, which, after all, was performed enough over the last 15 years that those professionally concerned ought to be in practice!

lisianthus · 29/10/2010 19:53

Not the law society, that won't do you any good. They aren't the right bunch.

Complain to the Legal Practice Board. Before doing that, you may want to complain to the senior partner of the firm and tell him that you intend to complain to the LPB. If he is any good, he will start kicking people hard until the situation is fixed. That would actually be faster than complaining to the LPB, who go through a sort of tribunal process. The senior partner can just scream "BLOGGS! GET IN HERE" and start "what the hell-ing".

Morons. Good luck.

sonotboden · 29/10/2010 20:14

dunno but love the word wankshaftGrin

Acanthus · 29/10/2010 20:15

You mean you are slating solicitors whilst actually using a licensed conveyancer? There's a reason they are cheaper, you know...

KiwiKat · 29/10/2010 20:16

Is your solicitor based in Clifton, with an office in London? By any chance ...

Tanga · 29/10/2010 20:46

They do seem to be ALL BLOODY AMBULANCE CHASING TOSSERS taking the piss just a little...the lovely lady who bought our house and was frantic to move in so she could nurse her terminally ill mother at 'home' would certainly agree, after spending months trying to get her sol to sort the paperwork. He was too interested in bumping up his bill - it took him two months - her mum died in hospital.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 30/10/2010 08:36

Yes Acanthus, I assume the woman in charge is a real solicitor though. Could be wrong.
Kiwi, no, based in Mancester but with branches all over the country I think.
The point is, it's over now and there's nothing I can do until Monday. At least the house is insured.
