..to want to swim naked

I am waaaaaay the wrong side of 40 and have never swum in a lake, river or pool unencumbered by clothes. Have I left it too late or should I throw caution to the wind, rip up my "To Do" list, head out to the nearest remote body of water and embrace wild swimming?

There are other things I want to do before I die that are a little more suited to my, ahem, great age and beauty (not). Should I start with those instead, I wonder, rather than risk frightening the horses?

Go to a Croatian Island - we went to mljet. Naked swimming there was glorious. Would love to do it again one day

Ineedmorepumpkins · 31/10/2014 22:19

I think it has become "wild swimming" because most people think you can only swim in that people soup they call the swimming pool.

My Dd3 and I have come to love wild swimming in the last few months although I am sorry to say we skinny dip in our wetsuits! Grin

Too chilly for us. Maybe one day though Smile

pookamoo · 31/10/2014 22:24

I just googled the Sanctuary and it has closed down! No more naked swimming there, then!

BathshebaDarkstone · 31/10/2014 22:36

I agree with GreenStinking. It's November tomorrow! Halloween Shock

vienna1981 · 02/11/2014 19:08

Go for it. You won't regret it. And you will never again want to wear a swimsuit/trunks etc.

I belong to a naturist group in Yorkshire and we hire a local pool for private nudey-dips once a week. I love it. The British Naturism website should be able to guide you.

WitchWay · 02/11/2014 19:10

I've swum naked abroad on naturist beaches. Love it!

Lunastarfish · 02/11/2014 19:11

I was very jealous of a lady circa 60 stark naked on holiday meditating on the beach and swimming naked. I aspire to that! She looked so serene.

Silvercatowner · 02/11/2014 19:19

Struggling to understand what is the unreasonableness here.

vienna1981 · 08/11/2014 21:13

Notsocrates,

Have you done it yet ? Let me try to sell you nude swimming some more.

This afternoon I went to Bramley Baths for the weekly swim. I was especially looking forward to it as I hadn't been able to go for a month. It was even more blissful than usual, simply because the water temperature was almost that of a warm bath. Maybe a bit too warm for serious lane swimming but what the hell. No awkwardness, no funny looks, no hostility. Just relaxed nudity in a nice warm pool on a grotty November afternoon. Great !

All you have to do is enquire, join up and participate. BTW, families are most welcome with my group.

vienna1981 · 15/11/2014 16:50

Very fed up today. ITV doing some filming at Bramley Baths so our swimming is cancelled. Still there's next Saturday and the Saturday after.

Ave yer seen im lads........Ave yer seen im ......

I was a nanny in South America and I took a 5 hour round trip in the Andes where I climbed a high fence to swim naked in a thermal pool with a full moon, snow capped volcanoes and (wolves?) howling in the background...true and spookily amazing...30 years ago now but one of my special moments....

bigTillyMint · 15/11/2014 17:14

I did quite a bit of skinny-dipping in my youth - first time was in a outdoor village swimming pool in France with a couple of other English girls and a load of much older French boysWink
Then loads of times in Greece with my ex.

It's a great feeling. Shame I am too old and flabby now my DH would NEVER entertain the idea!

Tobyjugg · 15/11/2014 17:27

Aren't there swimming clubs that cater for naked swimming? Used to be one on a backwater of the Thames near Oxford, I think.

TheWholeofTheSpoon · 15/11/2014 17:31

I probably shouldn't share this, but DH and I went skinny dipping in our own pool. The next day, the new neighbour introduced himself to me with a, "Did you enjoy your swim last night?!" I was mortified!!

Bambambini · 15/11/2014 17:33

Do it, swimming naked in a lovely warm sea - everyone should do it.

Sallyingforth · 15/11/2014 17:42

It's really the only proper way to swim. After swimming naked, any sort of costume just feels restrictive. And silly - everyone knows what you have under those scraps of cloth.

Cherriesandapples · 15/11/2014 17:47

I've done it at a nudist beach in Greece. It was fabulous but mammaries undulated at a different pace to arms and legs so wasn't exactly speedy!

vienna1981 · 15/11/2014 17:54

It's the best way to swim. I occasionally go to another local pool for 'regular ' swimming and I feel really awkward having to put my trunks on. It just seems so daft when we're all human beings.

I can't emphasise enough how much I like a nude swim. The first time I got into the water sans-trunks two years ago I was completely sold. I wish I had done it years ago. Just need the money to go to a nice beach abroad now.

I think I've gone on enough now...

bedraggledmumoftwo · 15/11/2014 18:26

Wouldn't want to do it in the uk and felt quite brave and risquee when we first ventured onto the au naturel beach on our honeymoon, but we ended up going there every day, once youdo.it it is liberating and not scary!

Sallyingforth · 15/11/2014 23:19

There are many UK beaches where you can swim naked from a quiet corner without being troubled - I have always done so and it's not a big issue.

vienna1981 · 16/11/2014 14:30

Sallyingforth. I think we're agreed on our appreciation of bare bathing.

Studland Bay in Dorset and Brighton are just two of the beaches in England where nakedness is permitted. There must be lots more.

What a nice thread this is. Not a hint of unreasonableness at all but so what ? It's just a great subject to talk about but even better to participate in. Skin is in !

Can't wait till next SaturdayWink

vienna1981 · 16/11/2014 15:58

PS. Sally. I see from another old thread you are also a nocturnal nudist. Likewise. I ditched the pyjamas twenty years ago.

baskingseals · 16/11/2014 17:04

I cheat. I go in with my swimmers on, take them off, tie them round my wrist, swim, then put them back on and get out. Have only ever done this in the sea though.
