to want to tick a different box

AIBU to feel unhappy that the only option I can tick on a form is "unemployed".

I choose to be a SAHM and had a professional career before DD.

Why is there not a box that states full time mum that I can tick!! Grrrrrrrrr! Angry

But you are unemployed if you do not get paid. No one said you were doing nothing.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 29/10/2010 15:45

Because we are all full time mums

(those of us who have children, I mean)

Is there an 'other' space?

You could be a designer, a chef, a maitre d', an early years educator??

pickledbabe · 29/10/2010 15:45

even if you worked as a volunteer somewhere, you would have to tick "unemployed".

rainbowinthesky · 29/10/2010 15:46

WHo employs you? Noone? THen you are unemployed. Hate the term full time mum.

bobblemeat · 29/10/2010 15:48

You are not in anyone's employ so you are unemployed. Personally I prefer unemployed to full time mum which sounds like a patronising token job for the little woman.

gottogetoutmore · 29/10/2010 15:54

Yeah, I suppose. Just didn?t really consider myself unemployed tbh.
New to this full time mum thing.
Would prefer a box that states my situation more exactly [hsmile]

BeerTrix - I tend to refer to myself as a 'resting teacher'.

How about "economically inactive"?

LadyInPink · 29/10/2010 16:17

If the form is only a questionaire and not important to benefits etc then put self employed down as you are employed by yourself to look after your DC but are unpaid (doing it for lurve) lol Grin

YANBU and actually you shouldn't tick the unemployed box because the usual definition is 'involuntarily out of work'. The government wouldn't could you as unemployed because you're not available for work eg here

sethstarkaddersmummyreturns · 29/10/2010 16:21

wouldn't count you as unemployed

gottogetoutmore · 29/10/2010 17:27

The form is for a credit ref check by letting agent so not toooo pleased ticking unemployed box. And it seems that the uncomfortable feeling i got was right. I am, by definition most definitely not unemployed Grin

but am definitely economically inactive and certainly doing it for the lurve lol!!!!
