sleepover

grandma (MIL) sometimes has our 3 nearly 4 year old overnight. She lives alone and puts him on cushions on the floor (there is nowhere else) and sleeps beside him. He has wet the bed on a couple of occasions, and one time rolled off and peed on her white rugs. She works from home, so I understand the difficulty there, plus the rugs are heavy and she cant manage the laundry. She is insistent that we put him in nappies when he sleeps over. He hasn;t work them for nearly 2 years, and doubt he will keep them on. I don't want to do it as it seems regressive, especially as although he kept dry at night for 3 months, he has been wetting the bed quite a lot at home recently. Am I being unreasonable?

Well, you're not unreasonable to not put him back in nappies, but I think you are unreasonable to expect her to have him to stay overnight if he is not reliably dry, given that she struggles to deal with the inevitable consequences.

Which of you is it who really wants him to stay over? If she's determined to have him to stay, then she's stuck with the consequences really. But if it suits you to have him stay there, then I think you have to work on finding a solution, like maybe providing a small mattress with waterproof cover etc.

Plus of course try to resolve the problem, if he was fine for a while he can be again!

I agree with you, He was reliable for a while, and I always provide waterproofs and tried to provide his mattress, but she insisted on using her cushions. All was fine until one day he wet her cushions. she gave him a drink quite late, so that didn't help.

I am less fussed about him staying over, she enjoys it.

How about using one of the inflatable ready beds? I think they're about £20 or so in Argos. (I'm assuming that space is the problem with the mattress). They don't take up much space inflated and obviously deflate flat for storage.

They have a sort of sleeping bag thing, so your DS is less likely to roll out and you could give her some of the disposable pad things to put on it.
