To expect my teenagers to stay in for one evening per week

So I can watch the tv and totally relax knowing they are ok
Just one night a week, I would like them both in and door locked at 7pm.
Am I asking too much from them? (aged 17 and 15)

They should not be out at every night.

Do they not have homework ??

sarahfreck · 28/10/2010 19:16

Your home. Your rules!

atswimtwolengths · 28/10/2010 19:18

You are being unreasonable! Don't you know they shrivel up and die if they aren't in regular (ie minute by minute) contact with their friends?

MmeOrangeBlackandBlueberry · 28/10/2010 19:18

Just tell them! You are the adult in the relationship.

newwave · 28/10/2010 19:23

No one can live others lives for them at 17 it,s their choice, 15 is debatable YABU.

When they are 19 and 22 you will still be worrying when they are out clubbing all night, I should know so best get used to it :)

bubbleOseven · 28/10/2010 20:13

YABU - if you can't go out every night of the week when your young when can you?

onceamai · 28/10/2010 20:15

17 and 15? I assume they are still in school? I don't have teenagers but during term time I was never allowed out on weeknights. I was expected to be studying or going to bed at a reasonable hour to get up for school. My parents were probably extreme but I would certainly expect school going kids to be in more nights than they are out.
Why are you worrying so much though? Do you not know where they are?

usualsuspect · 28/10/2010 21:56

The 15 year old maybe ..but not the 17 year old so yabu

Mine weren't out every night at those ages - school came first. Maybe the odd night out to a school activity or whatever or a special occasion.
I would have had to justify going out in triplicate to my own parents too who were strict about school nights etc.
Things have definitely changed.
I'm fed up with bleary-eyed kids complaining about being tired in my classes.
