...being able to write good English is really important?

Or am I just being too picky?

My friend says it shouldn't matter because the cause is a good one, but I think it's really important to be able to present yourself in an understandable way.

what do you think?

(hopefully I haven't made any terrrible mistakes in this post Wink).

It would totally put me off, it's totally unprofressionally imo.

EnSuiteShed · 27/10/2010 23:46

Kind of agree with your friend.

If it was a hairdressers or a retailer etc then I would agree with you, but something about this just makes me feel like it doesn't really matter.

CheeseandGherkins · 27/10/2010 23:49

I think it should look professional as otherwise it could also look slightly dodgy. It does matter imo.

cumfy · 27/10/2010 23:55

We obviously can't take care of them, so you will have to adopt them.

It's bloody awful and doesn't inspire me with confidence in the organisation at all.

I've come away wondering about the futures of the children concerned given that those responsible for their placement can't use the English language correctly.

ande · 28/10/2010 00:11

No you are not picky.

That site is shite.

The "ins and outs of presenting the English language are of paramouunt importance, especially when standing cap in hand."

A society should be judged (by itself) of how it cares (fill the blanks).

Keep posting for some "real" help. I have pnd and your post profoked me responding. HTH

animula · 28/10/2010 00:27

The strongest sense I have from reading that web-page is that Greenwich social services are under-funded, under-valued, and that it is all run by somebody in their lunch-break, and the odd 5 minutes they have, whilst doing their real job. And that Greenwich council are "A" OK with that state of affairs.

And that may be true. It makes me feel very sad, actually. It all screams "lack of care". Hope the children find somewhere good.

ande · 28/10/2010 00:36

All true

Hey ho.

LadyLatherOfIndecision · 28/10/2010 00:37

yes animula

the poor english used, indicates a

DuelingFanjo · 28/10/2010 08:40

My friend was quite offended that I said the site really put me off. Not that it would put me off the cause but that I felt unimpressed. Though I can see that animula is right, it does give the impression that they don't really care enough to get it right etc.

Is the information written by the social services or by the foster carer?
It looked to me like it had been written by the people caring for the boys, in which case they may have chosen to keep it exactly as is (authentic)
however, if it was written by the service then it just looks sloppy, rushed and uncaring.

I know from personal experience that having bad spelling or grammer doesn't make you thick, but unfortunately that is the assumption that people make. Especially if it is on an official document or website.

EnSuiteShed · 28/10/2010 11:08

Sorry quick hijack - smellmycheese love the name - I almost had that one myself Grin.

Sarsaparilllla · 28/10/2010 11:59

I think that website is an insult to those kids tbh, it's awful nobody has taken the time to make sure it's corrected.

cumfy · 28/10/2010 12:00

Other profiles on the site seem quite well written. Seems to be a bit of a one off.

How did you end up navigating to that particular page ?

DuelingFanjo · 28/10/2010 12:04

I was talking to a friend who wants to foster and she sent me the link.

I looked on one of those sites that does personalised gifts and they had spelled something wrong on their home page - I didn't order anything!

smellmycheese · 28/10/2010 19:05

Why thank you EnSuiteShed! I may well extend to smellmycheeseumutha!

TiggyD · 28/10/2010 19:37

Nurseries are really bad too. A small nursery would cobble together a shakey looking website and forget to update it. I've come across several places that proudly boast a curriculum which is pre-EYFS and over 2 years old.
