She had taken our mum out today,(mum is wheelchair dependent) she parked mum in Costa and went to get her nails done, comes out of the nail bar sees the bus coming, gets on the bus and is half way home before she thinks where is my coat?

She then realized she had left her coat with mum in the coffee shop.......... silly cow had to jump off the bus and head back to get mother.

AIBU to have laughed when she phoned me to tell me

My mum left be at the shops once. She drove home, unpacked the car, unpacked my sister from her car seat, put the groceries away and then had a cup of coffee.

An hour later she thought the house was quiet. Went back to the shops and I am not there.
The local Aboriginal elders had found me (and knew me) and took me to the pub for a packet of chips and a pink lemonade!!

WriterofDreams · 28/10/2010 09:07

Hilarious! Poor sis, it'll take her years to live that down.

The story is still told in my family of the time shortly after I was born when my parents got my sister and me trussed up to go out, got in the car and drove away. Leaving me on the couch. Didn't notice I wasn't there for about 20 minutes. I can so see this happening to me when my LO comes along in December. Will have to write YOU HAVE A BABY across my hand in big letters.

RunawayPumpkin · 28/10/2010 09:15

LOL glad my sister is not the only muppet one

In fact QUINT think your post could have done with a few - ' as you do 's

e.g.

I was eating an ice cream in a blizzard - as you do '

' untied someone elses dog - as you do '

' moved it somewhere else - as you do '

' did a wheelie out of supermarket car park - as you do '

Having a wee snooze one evening, and was woken by Brown Owl knocking the front door and DD3 standing with her looking a bit forlorn. I'm a stickler for being on time for picking them up, so it was a tad unusual to say the least. Got home from shopping one time, and settled down for a coffee, and asked the other children, where's the baby? I'd put the car in the garage closed and locked the door, and then gone into the house without her. Same daughter, poor wee lamb. Couldn't figure out one night why she wouldn't settle (she was about 5), and was settling down myself later that night when I remembered she'd been at Rainbows earlier and usually ate when she got home, after the rest of us - forgot all about her dinner. I think I gave her a bit of a complex.

hellphireblue · 28/10/2010 09:22

I've forgotten to give DD1 lunch before now Blush and then spent the afternoon saying no everytime she asked for a banana because it would be tea time soon Blush Blush

AliceandtheGinormousBaps · 28/10/2010 09:24

[hgrin] feel so much better about my mother leaving me in Boots as a baby and getting on the bus to go home.

I do have to check i have both children before i drive anywhere now, Seatbelt - check, Purse - check, Phone - check, Both children - check [hgrin]

Suda · 28/10/2010 09:29

Doubt it SKYLINE - she probably thinks how much more fun childhood is having a slightly mad eccentric mum. Smile

My mum always calls me by my sisters name first then corrects herself - every single time. Have given up on it now - shes 80. Never put it down to favouritism - just to my mum being a barmpot.

Stinkyoldclottedcatspus · 28/10/2010 09:29

We once left gran sitting on the chairs outside woolworths in Lakeside. When we came out, she was nowhere to be seen! We thought she had been grannynapped! Spent ages searching for her, and were becoming quite frantic.
We eventually found her where we left her, on the seats outside the bottom floor of woolworths. We had looked round the shop, gone upstairs, forgotten the stairs and left the store on the next level! There were four of us! Granny was very much unimpressed! Confused

bruffin · 28/10/2010 09:33

I once had 3 of ds,s friends back for tea. Collected them at school kept making sure I had 4 children. I then realised as I was going out school gate, that I should have had 5 with me as I had forgotten about DD.
Have also forgotten to pick Ds up from school when DD was off sick. I was half an hour late picking him up.

Suda · 28/10/2010 09:35

Glad it didnt get to stage of dregging the lake then Grin.

Can imagine granny saying - 'oh no its ok - I've been fine - kept entertained watching this lot for hours'.

Nuttybear · 28/10/2010 09:36

Skyline & hell LOL poor kids Grin
LOL at all of these but must remember to feed my own child now!

Suda · 28/10/2010 09:37

Making a big presumption there btw - that 'Lakeside' is - well - by the side of a lake !

salizchap · 28/10/2010 09:49

LMAO!

SandStorm · 28/10/2010 10:20

I have once offered to drop off 2 of dd's friends on the way home from school. I duly collected all three of them, stopped at the shop briefly on the way home and then continued on my way.

Pulled up on my driveway and looked in the rear view mirror to see two very confused children looking back at me, wondering why I had brought them all the way home with me.

I had completely forgotten they were in the car with us Blush.

bramblebooks · 28/10/2010 11:12

I once had a major panic attack in the playground as my toddler son had wandered off and couldn't be found. After 10 mins I realized that was because he was asleep in his cot at home because dh had the afternoon off.

ramblingmum · 28/10/2010 11:33

This is great I was needing a laugh this morning

Last week we were faffing a round getting ready to go for a walk, when I realised that I couldn't see dd2 (18 months) and the door was open . I was just starting to panic when DH reminded me she was in the carrier on my back Blush

And my parents left me in a bookshop at about 2y old. I was there for a bout half an hour but didn't seem to notice as I was bussy looking at/ pulling books off a shelf

My Gran left my Mum in the pram outside a shop (along with their Jack Russell) and also got all the way home. When she got back Mum was there safe and sound still outside the shop, the shopkeeper said he would have taken her inside but couldn't get past the dog who had apparently been doing a very efficient job of 'guarding' the pram.

This story has stopped my Mum and my Sisters, and me from doing the same thing with our children, - I still get that sinking feeling when the car falls quite and have to check everyone's on board that should be.

very funny thread though, enjoying the chuckle.

Suda · 28/10/2010 12:03

Nothing to do with people but have lost count of how many times I have been rummaging through my bag or bedroom or whatever looking for my phone - so I can go straight out if I ever manage to get rid of this bloody salesperson /relative whatever - on the - erm - phone Blush. Oh yes Suda as my DH once said - and he takes sarcasm to a new level - 'can you make do with that one stuck to your ear till you find it !! '

chasingrainbows · 28/10/2010 19:16

a few years ago I (along with lo 3) collected dd & ds from school along with a total of 4 of their friends. I had been organised for once & had even made snack boxes for everyone to have on getting back from school. on handing out the snack boxes back at house I realised that 1 had one spare - quick headcount confirmed id left the 3 yo behind at school. raced back to find a local childminder bringing him back ..... im still mortified every time i see the childminder.
[hblush]

sumum · 28/10/2010 19:53

My first night out since having pfb and left her with xdh.
came back after couple of hours and asked how baby had been.

xdh then proceeded to tell me how it had taken him ages to get her to sleep in the pram - so he could leave her and pop to the corner shop!!

er Hmm- the parm has wheels you know, you can push it to the shop with baby in it.

Pfb is 21 now, somehow she survived.

RunawayPumpkin · 28/10/2010 20:21

Sis and mum are off on holiday tonight, I hope sis remembers to get her on and off the plane!
