so thought id buy some see if it worked miracles as he and me fancy a night of sleep and general well-being

bought the 2yrs one, anyway gave him some 3hrs ago and no sign of him slowing down, though does seem to of perked him up

AIBU to of expected great things

The 'sleeping agent' in medised is the one also found in Piriton which can in some cases have th opposite affect of the desired one. Sounds like your DS gets hyper on it sorry.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 26/10/2010 21:29

Is this a wind up?

It is no longer possible to buy medised for 4 year olds.

If you gave it to him with the intention of geting more sleep, I think that what's happening now is called Karma!!!!!

Diziet · 26/10/2010 21:41

Some of it's labelled as 6 plus, some still 2 plus.
I used to use it for DS1 years ago whenever he had a cold (he is now 5) - back then it was labelled for 3 months plus! So when DS2 came along I would use it for him occasionally - only when desperate though as he has a heart condition. I have since found helpful alternatives and haven't used it in ages. (Don't want to either if I can help it, he's on enough medicine as it is!!)
Here, was it my thread you read??

LittleMissHissyFangs · 26/10/2010 21:45

It's a wind up.. ticks all the boxes....

Ear plugs OP, then you won't even hear them crying out for you if they need you in the night...

Someone throw this one a Goat....

theywillgrowup · 26/10/2010 21:48

Yes, it might still be labelled 2+, but it won't be sold by a pharmacist for parents to give to 2 year olds.

theywillgrowup · 26/10/2010 21:50

oh here we go

honestly very green on this i suspect but would the reaction be the same if i said Calpol

is Calpol seen as the same

made my DS hyper too.

not entirely sure what boxes this thread ticks that make it a wind up Hmm.

theywillgrowup · 26/10/2010 21:55

thanks wasnt meant as a wind up,but some people can be prickly i suppose about certain things

ChocHobNob · 26/10/2010 21:55

I still have some from before they changed the age on the bottle. My son was fine with it (is under 6) and I don't overdose him, so I still use it even though they don't technically sell it for under 6's.

I've never found it has a drowsy effect on him, but it does work as a decongestant when he is bunged up, which calpol doesn't do, and helps him sleep better.

It's never put mine to sleep .

Thingumy · 26/10/2010 21:56

Is he feeling better then?

I only give medised if ds has a hacking cough/completely bunged up and if it's keeping him awake for most of the night-he's 8 btw.

Medised isn't a wonder drug-it relieves stuffy noses, reduces temps and can aid a restful sleep.

theywillgrowup · 26/10/2010 21:57

choc yes the same has deffo put a spring in him,im assuming the decongestant has worked and thats making him feel better

OP posts:
Thingumy · 26/10/2010 21:58

Assume that he will sleep easier tonight then if he's less congested.

theywillgrowup · 26/10/2010 22:04

hope so,normally let colds run there course, but was heavy this time,so good to know something that works

Diziet · 26/10/2010 22:09

Some kids do go a bit funny on it. I try to stick to calpol most of the time if I have to use anything at all now.
On the Medised thread that I'd started, someone suggested rubbing Eucalyptus oil into DS2's feet and trying nasal drops instead of medised, which I tried - and it seems to be quite effective (crosses fingers!).
It certainly doesn't help when there's differently labelled boxes of the stuff about.
I think the pharmacies are being on the safe side TBH, although a few people on my thread put some links to some useful info about why the age restrictions were put on it.
I've heard those plug-in thingys are supposed to be very good too. Might help me, actually - I snore like a pig!! [hgrin]

theywillgrowup · 26/10/2010 22:25

diz when one of my sons was stuffy (years ago)i bought them karvol drops never again they irritated the hell out of him really badly

never used on the other two that was enough to put me of for ever

may look into it a bit more

lol at the snore comment
