Unfortunately I am miscarrying at the moment and today have passed some worrying clots. After failing to get through to the midwives or the nurse at our doctors, I called NHS Direct.

I started to give my details and a graphic explanation of what had happened with regard to the size and colour of the clots when a squeaky little voice at the end of the line said 'er, did you mean to call First Direct?'. BlushBlush

I am so embarrassed - I always get those two phone numbers mixed up and had even gone all the way through their security questions on auto-pilot!

Sorry to hear your news, mudandmayhem. Hope you managed to get a decent response from your hospital.

I've always been utterly impressed with FD call staff - I'm sure they would treat your situation with the tact it deserves

deathjeff · 26/10/2010 21:31

kitchenroll it most certainly is...

Although given their staff turnover up here I'm surprised there aren't more of us hovering around!

Actually, this is a whole other thread isn't it... I shall start one forthwith...

redflag · 26/10/2010 21:33

Deathjeff, where were you Leeds or Scotland?

deathjeff · 26/10/2010 21:39

Scotland :)

Chilliest airport hangar of a callcentre that I have ever experienced in my life!

I have to say I have stuck with FD as I find their service better than anywhere else although it does have its flaws every now and again.

redflag · 26/10/2010 21:54

I was in Leeds, not overly cold, but near a cesspit and the smell comes in through the air con. Smile I would have been with them still, except i got my charges back from them when i left.

deathjeff · 26/10/2010 22:05

Does it??? That's awful. I worked the late shift and the office was in quite a dodgy area with no public transport... so they both have their foibles!

It's not a job I miss... I think they ask far too much of their staff.

No i am sure i lived on Halton moor down wind of it too! The smell used to make me heave on a good day.

And one of the days i was training it was really bad, and i said WTF to my trainer and he said its the cesspit round the corner.

redflag · 27/10/2010 06:58

Hi, I work at first direct and I am used to hearing some really personal details from callers.

Believe me, I have heard a lot worse. I am sure the rep will have been sympathetic and understand that you are having a stressful time.

Really sorry about your loss and hope you are ok.

redflag · 27/10/2010 11:22

sorry that was the wrong one, its behind PTS (gibraltar island road) across the water.

Its a "water treatment plant"

GhastlyandUgly · 27/10/2010 11:35

Another ex-First Directer here. Agree with others they will be hugely sympathetic and discreet.

redflag · 27/10/2010 11:39

God, how many of us are actually lurking about then?

GhastlyandUgly · 27/10/2010 12:38

A fair few I'd imagine.
