AIBU to think that when I go into the newsagent the man behind the counter could pause from his mobile telephone conversation to look at me and say please and thank you.

No not at all.

Can't imagine anybody would think YABU about this one.

Annoying isn't it? I often get into trouble at work for not answering the phone at all while I serve customers. I'm all for multi tasking but it's bad manners talking on the phone when you're meant to be talking to someone else.

Same goes for those who merrily chat away on their mobiles while I give them their change Hmm Although I do take great delight in pointing out to the ones yammering on their phones that their card is declined as loudly as I can without yelling Grin

No what you do there is fold arms, and say, when you are ready...

And refuse to pay for said item until he at least pauses to engage with you.

YANBU. It's the height of bad manners if he doesn't even make any eye contact with you.

That happened to me today too at a well known grocery store.

Shop assistant was on mobile sounding indignant about something, barely looked up, processed items and told me the wrong amount. I corrected her, she was adamant that the price of items were more than what I said so I reminded her that they were priced 30p each. She checks the label and comes back to the counter with said label, without apologising for her error and even looking at me, she mumbles "The manager will have to sort this out". Manager was apologetic and very nice.

My pet hate is when people are being served in a shop and they carry on their conversation without even making eye contact with the shop assistant, let alone saying please or thank you. I have seen this loads of times in my local M&S food bit - I feel so sorry for the assistants.....

YABU to use the term 'moby'

YANBU to expect manners.
