vests and baby grows, and add a coat and hat when out and about??

I just don't see the point in jeans and tops at this age it looks so uncomfortable and needs changing so often.

Anyway a lady commneted today at lunchtime
"Ah he's ready for bed"

ummmmm wondering now AIBU?

really, who gives a crap what babies wear as long as it's warm enough and practocal? I did ind that seperates were better after weaning as less changing, and once they crawl babygros aren't practical as their feet get all tangled in the legs.

Ds1 was so tiny that I couldnt really get "proper" clothes for him that didnt make him look strange and even smaller Sad

He was in babygros til he was 7/8 months.

It used to make me chuckle at weighing in clinic - all the mums with their very beautifully dressed up dc...took them 20 mins to get them dressed and undressed to be weighed Grin

I have a real thing about newborns in denim too - makes me shudder - but I may just be odd Smile

DD wore babygrows until she was 6 months old and then I started putting in clothes if we were going out. But indoors, with no one going to see her she wore babygrows until she started to crawl.

ItWasADarkAndStormyNight · 24/10/2010 20:23

Ds is 7mo, he's not sitting let alone crawling and I have him in a babygrow with a jumper or cardi when we're out.
They're comfortable, he's still in a fair few nappies a day and he looks cute! I don't get they're only babies for a short while so dress them up, they're only babies for a short while they have their whole life to wear outfits surely?
All the babies I know are in outfits from a few days though.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 24/10/2010 20:23

Mine were in babygros for about first 6 months (with the occasional outfit of soft trousers and a top). When they started eating food things got a bit more messy and so it was easier to have a top that could be changed independently of the bottom.

DD spent her first 3-4 months in a sling anyway, so nobody could see her outfit. Babygros are nice because they keep everything together and don't ride up.

scaryjane · 24/10/2010 20:24

YANBU

You've got years ahead to 'dress them up' if you wish. They can only wear babygros for such a short time.

My DS only 6 weeks but so far only ever in babygros Smile

withorwithoutyou · 24/10/2010 20:26

I always dressed DD1 in outfits.

The novelty has worn off now I have DD2 - it's the socks I can't be arsed with so anything that has feet attached is a winner in my book. I generally dress her in some kind of all in one with feet though, rather than leaving a babygrow on her.

PutOnThePan · 24/10/2010 20:31

DS2sego is 7 months Is in babygrows all day too. I love him in White and also have some funky ones. I just add some of my mum's lovely hand knit jumpers or cardigans.

I really don't like the thought of tight elastic waist bands on his pudgey tummy!

TBH I think babies dressed as small people looks rather chavvy and I'm probably being a bit of a snob about it.

You are not BU :o

Nando95 · 24/10/2010 20:31

Its your choice entirely but in my opinion babygros are the equivalent to pjs when babies get to a certain age and arent the warmest whilst the child is out!

lal123 · 24/10/2010 20:32

It's up to your how you dress your children - but to me it would feel a bit like leaving DD in her jammies all day

emy72 · 24/10/2010 20:32

I have a 13 month old DC4 and I try and get her dressed most days.

However, sometimes when I am rushing to get the other 3 ready for the school run, I do end up just putting a coat on her and taking her in her PJs.

If we go somewhere specific, like to visit friends etc then I do like to dress her.

So I guess I don't think you are being U.

Meglet · 24/10/2010 20:33

yanbu.

Although I compromised with babygros under dungarees once DD was rolling and crawling. Keeps them warm but denim dungarees are pretty robust.

lovechoc · 24/10/2010 20:35

What I do with DS2 is put him babygrows and sleepsuits when in the house but if we go out then I dress him - best of both worlds! He is just over 3mo.

YANBU - do what you like, it's your baby.:)

blackcurrants · 24/10/2010 20:35

YANBU as far as I'm concerned. DS is 12 weeks and is almost always in a footed babygro, sometimes with fleecy trousers and a cardie-thing, if it's cold and we're going out. Some people gave us jeans-and-shirts type outfits, which we've dutifully put him in a few times, and he's miserable in them - the shirts ride up, gaps between his trousers and socks make him cold... it's harder to change him and he's less snuggly - argh, I don't know. We both work and life is very short and time very precious. I'm keeping him in babygros until it's easier not to. It may look a bit lazy, but then, I have a baby and a job and a dog and a long commute and I don't give a damn, frankly. DS is warm, comfy, and utterly adorable in his babygros [hgrin]

RockBat · 24/10/2010 20:36

YABU. Babygros are meant for babies, which is what you have. I take the point about crawling but other than that, why would you want waistbands and collars digging into your baby? I do agree with the poster above about dressing them as little little dolls. As long as it's clean then a babygro is the perfect outfit.

RockBat · 24/10/2010 20:36

Oh flip, I meant YANBU!

Schnitzel · 24/10/2010 20:38

YANBU (as long as your baby is warm enough).

I love my 5 month old in babygros. There are certain babygros that you can buy that are more funky and look like they're for the day, rather than baby pajamas. Some of them are padded/lined too.

blackcurrants · 24/10/2010 20:39

Oh, and I should add - we get him dressed in the morning (usually cos he's burped or drooled on whatever he was sleeping in) - it's just that we put him in something like this.
The fleecy ones are great now it's getting a bit chilly.

poppyswill · 24/10/2010 20:47

YANBU they are babies! makes sure they are clean, warm and comfortable - who wants little babies wearing jeans that are digging and rubbing them in all the wrong places. I think a little clean one (especially in this cold) dressed in a fresh babygro is just adorable - absolutely nothing wrong with that. Baby is happy and comfortable and looking cute as a button. Plenty of years to come to get them in their jeans and funky clothes! x

Mishy1234 · 24/10/2010 20:58

YANBU.

Babies just want to be comfortable and warm. Babygros are perfect for that, no tight waist bands, no sock to fall off all the time. They have the rest of their lives to wear proper outfits.

Enjoy, is what I say! They grow up soon enough.

APixieInMyTea · 24/10/2010 21:00

YANBU.

If I know we're not going anywhere I change my 18 month old in a fresh clean babygro in the morning after a nappy change. He just looks sooo bloody cute. He wore babygro's all the time until he was around 9months with a nice cardi or coat.

I do dress him in 'proper' outfits for going out now though.

My 5week old is of course always looking gorgeous in a vest and babygro, although I'm buying more separates for him at the moment. Soft cotton trousers with feet and matching top. Easier to change nappy when out and about. I don't actually own any 'proper' outfits for him yet. Grin

SeriousWispaHabit · 24/10/2010 21:17

Surely as long as your baby is dressed in warm, dry clothes that are temperature/weather appropriate then it doesn't matter what they are wearing. If you want to dress them in fancier outfits than layered vest/babygro/cardigan then do but it really is for your benefit and not theirs, although as long as they are comfortable it really doesn't matter.

Mumcah · 24/10/2010 21:24

YANBU.My DS just wears vests and babygros as they are comfy.

With my firstborn she had a different outfit every day!
