to be dreading the clocks going back!

It's dark and cold and already I am dreading the next 5 months of long dark evenings! I know by next February I will feel as light deprived and miserable as I do every winter. The long dark evenings although quite cosy at first just become depressing as you draw the curtains at 4 o'clock. TBH I wish they would leave well alone so we could have lighter evenings and yes I know the mornings would be darker but somehow that doesn't bother me as much. [Victor Meldrew emoticon]

When do the clocks go back? I miss this every year. Blush

But no - YDefNBU. I enjoy snuggly evenings wrapped up in a blanket in front of the TV, but I hate the cold trek through the dark to get home to them.

Alambil · 24/10/2010 19:02

on the 31st

SeriousWispaHabit · 24/10/2010 19:03

I am certainly dreading my DD1 not adjusting to the clocks going back as we currently have 5am wake ups quite regularly. Really can't manage even one day of 4am.

peeringintothevoid · 24/10/2010 19:04

YANBU. I wish they'd leave them alone too.

PlanetEarth · 24/10/2010 19:04

Hate, hate, hate the clock change Sad.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 24/10/2010 19:05

I Know Serious every year people without DC's gloat about an extra hour in bed and all I can think is that it'll mean early starts for week until their body clocks adjust!

Hate it hate it hate it. Hate the long dark nights. I want to emigrate.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 24/10/2010 19:08

I thought that there was a possibility that the whole crap process of changing the clocks was going to stop! I mean it really dose seem a bit arcane?

Oh god, that means an extra hour with mil next weekend Shock and then driving home in the dark....yuk

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 24/10/2010 19:12

Agree - hate the long dark nights, and the short days. I especially hate driving in the dark, and my commute home from work takes me along a bendy, twisty A road over moors which I share with speeding idiots. The lack of light and the cold is just do depressing..

Roll on next March...

Shaxx · 24/10/2010 19:24

YADNBU I agree. Hate it.
More than anything, life suddenly gets really boring. I don't mind snuggling in front of the tv from time to time but I'd rather be out and about at 4pm!

RockBat · 24/10/2010 19:28

I'm the lone voice here then! I love the dark evenings. I really love coming out of work in the dark, feels like I've done my dues and the evening is mine. Snuggly blankets, roaring fire and the being all sheltered in my home. The only bit I cannot bear is scraping ice off the car in the morning but that's not strictly relevant to the discussion!

RockBat · 24/10/2010 19:30

X posted. Why can you not be out and about at 4pm just because it's dark? We have streetlights (assuming you don't live down a windy country lane...)

nickytwotimes · 24/10/2010 19:30

yanbu

AdoraBelleDearhart · 24/10/2010 19:31

YANBU I hate the clock change and don't really understand why they do it - the US has different time zones why can't we if its an issue of safety in Scotland?

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 24/10/2010 19:33

On Rockbat I live in the middle of a very well lit city which unfortunately locks all the park gates 30 minutes before dusk so we can't even wrap up warm and go for a nice walk.

The dark evenings are what do me in.. I can even cope with the week it takes to get DC "adjusted", but yes, it's all rather depressing. I get used to it, but definitely takes a few weeks to make the shift.

YANBU!!!!!!

Guacamole · 24/10/2010 19:39

This will be my first clock change with a baby... Gulp... He's already wide awake and wanting to play at 5am!

sugarlake · 24/10/2010 19:46

I wish we could eat tons then hibernate until April.

YANBU.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 24/10/2010 19:49

I live in Scotland and don't really think its an issue of safety. Children should know how to cross a road safely in any conditions, and if its dark bung a high-viz vest and/or lights on them! My DCs walk home from school in winter in the gloom and have never found it unduly dangerous.
