in thinking that tesco and asda online grocery shopping services are both useless

Is it just me or are these services useless. I thought they were supposed to make life easier and less stressful but so far experices have been more stressful then going round the supermarket with my 5 month old.

Used tesco first a few times, third time had delivery booked between 10-12 and it hadn't turned up by 12 so rang CS to be told driver had tried to deliver and I was out. I had been in all morning and we have a tiny 2 bed house so its impossible not to hear a knock at the door but i had to accept what they said and was told delivery rebooked for after 5. Phoned CS at 7 to chase and was told it would be there by 8. DP outside around 8ish and saw delivery driver at property over the road so called him over. Driver from the morning had left a helpful message describing where their property was and how it looked like number 1. that is because it is number one and has a number 1 on the front door. We are number 13 and have a number 13 on the door!!! So eventually we get delivery but can the pickers follow instructions...no... meat order totally messed up as had put in what i wanted as substitutions which was totally ignored, also ended up with a pink bib for my little boy when i had specifically stated to send a bib suitable for a boy ie. NOT pink. So returns end up going back and checked yesterday and my credit card has still not been credited with the returns 2 weeks later.

So after that experience thought i would try asda. Last week fine, great i thought. This week booked to be delivered 4-6 yesterday, driver arrived 5ish and was taking a long time outside then came to door to say delivery wasn't on truck and would probably re rebooked to be delivered for 10-12 today. As he said probably thought i'd ring CS and check, so did so and was told yes appeared to be rebooked for 10-12 and if this changed they would ring me back. heard nothing back so sat in all morning waiting, nothing by 12 so phoned CS to be told order booked to be delivered between 5-8 tonight!!! Had abit of a rant and got put through to duty manager at store who has said she has got order being picked now and would put on the 2-5 delivery van and has asked the driver to go to our area first so hopefully I should have ASAP after 2. DP was at work when I arranged all this but he has come back early so we could go out and now we're stuck in waiting for stupid delivery...it had better turn up and be right!!!

Forgot to mention that was my 3rd time of using tesco and 2nd time of using asda so i've had cock ups 2 times out of 5 or 40% of the time. is this normal or am i just being unlucky??

Thinking i might try sainsburys next week or should i just give up this online lark altogether?

Why can't a boy wear a pink bib? Will his balls shrivel up and fall off? Hmm

I picked bib from the normal screen then when you get to the end on the screen where you choose if you want substitutions or not you can put little notes next to items so i put a note saying not to send a pink bib. If they just ignore the notes then they shouldn't provide the facility for adding them

We only have asda & tesco and I've got fed up with both of them.

Morph2 · 23/10/2010 13:50

tattydevine> He can wear a pink bib but my 1st choice would be to have a boys one, and like i said above why provide the facility to request specific items if its then ignored.

Agree - go shopping again - except for one big shop with ASDA about every 8 weeks for loo rolls, water, tins, soap powder, bathroom stuff, tea, cat food, etc. because it's so much cheaper there but the shopping experience is so unpleasant can't bear to go. There's a limit to mistakes with this sort of stuff and I'm not relying on it as I would with fresh stuff, maybe for dinner. Find mid week late pm deliveries, ie 8-10 the most reliable - also the most reliable in terms of substitutes. Don't know why.

LetThereBeRock · 23/10/2010 13:51

I've never had a problem with Asda.

I'm with Tatty on the bib thing. You asked for a bib.You got a bib, therefore it's suitable for your, and his requirements, which are presumably catching food and drool.

Morph2 · 23/10/2010 13:51

Riven>> Yes veggies have all been ok when they eventually get here.

I haven't tried Tesco though admittedly,as we're a little isolated and Asda is the only company that's willing to deliver to us.

onceamai · 23/10/2010 13:52

On that note, sitting here on mnet is not getting the shopping done. Had intended to be out by 8 this morning. S'pose had better bother to get dressed. Riven, if I were round the corner, would get yours too love.

MuGGGhoulWump · 23/10/2010 13:52

I love Asda.
I had a delivery last night, 2 subs but nothing weird, just a different sort of apples and a bigger milk.
They also accidentally sent some crumpets and fruit loaf which I hadn't ordered but got to keep.

LetThereBeRock · 23/10/2010 13:54

I've never had an interesting substitution.I want one.Envy

Though when I ordered a shop for my cousin, after she had her firstborn, they did send large tortilla wraps instead of the nappies I'd ordered.Grin

takingchances · 23/10/2010 13:55

Try Ocado if they deliver to your area. They have never let me down and their branded goods are price-matched with Tesco

Morph2 · 23/10/2010 13:55

just had a phone call from the driver, says he will be here before 3 so here's hoping then we can still go out after.

I use the Tesco service occasionally and it's always been on time, delivered by really nice people and rarely any substitutions. I think it's excellent.

MuGGGhoulWump · 23/10/2010 13:57

I've never had anything that odd either. Once I got some mini cheese and onion rolls instead of mini cheeses but that's the worst, and wasn't bad at all.

I've had plenty of more expensive things than I've ordered though which is great because you don't have to pay more than the cost of the original item.

I once got 18 fancy loo rolls instead of the 4 cheapies[hgrin]

HammerMouseOfHorrors · 23/10/2010 13:57

Riven

We can only get Tesco or Asda here, rural location, so out of the two, I use Tesco.

I'd suggest them as you can add delivery details so you could let them know you are in a wheelchair and may take a while to get to the door.

The delivery info get printed onto the drivers delivery sheet so they will know before they get there to wait a bit longer for you to get to the door.

I have this on mine as DS has SN and is often hooked up to a feeding pump.

Had very few wrong substitutions in the past but CS are fantastic and always refund money after two days max.

We've used them for two years and the drivers all know us now. They'll even take unwanted carrier bags away for you.

vbusymum1 · 23/10/2010 13:58

Haven't used Asda, started with Tesco years ago and they were very variable, lots of out of stock stuff, refunds that took ages to process so I went back to the shop.

But, restarted about a year ago and they are now much better, very rarely have any substitutions and I've never had them not arrive in the slot, drivers are always friendly.

As its all picked in a store you're dependent on the staff at that store so everyone's experience will be different. Also day and time of day makes a difference, I have my delivery on Monday when the shop is fully stocked and quiet so easier for the pickers I think.

TheAntiChristi · 23/10/2010 13:59

i think that shopping with a 5 month old is quite pleasurable - much harder when they get older! Good excuse for somehting to do if you ask me

i like sainsburys delivery and waitrose deliver

Morph2 · 23/10/2010 15:18

hooray its just arrived, sent specially by a man in a white van rather than the normal delivery truck, also sent a £5 asda voucher. Think it helped that i told them i'd nearly run out of baby milk and the baby would be starving!!

I've used tesco delivery for a few years, and rarely have a problem. That said, I don't buy meat/ fish/ veg from them, so just for the heavy stuff (washing powder/ bottles of juice etc) They are always on time, and I rarely have unacceptable subs. One time my milk hadn't been packed and the guy made a special round trip to redeliver it a couple of hours later. 'Spose it depends where you are. Also, as I get my order same time every week I tend to know the drivers etc now, so don't really have mix-ups with doors etc
