£35k tax free for working 20 hours a week....

In response to the 'Benefits' thread, I thought I would post this...

We took the decision to reduce DHs hours a few months back as we realised we are better off with him working part time than full time and this is what we get WEEKLY (4 DCs):

Wages (20 hours per week) £209
Housing Benefit £188 (leaving £7 for us to pay)
Council tax benefit £19 (leaving £3 for us to pay
Tax Credits £196
Working tax credits £13
Child benefit £60.50

Thats over £35K tax free! DH's fulltime wage was £34k before tax.

Also get free prescriptions and dental care, discounted kids activities and leisure centre membership. DH is home 5 days a week and I am loving having him around to help out with the DCs and doing stuff with them which he could not do when he worked 50 hours a week! 3 DC are at school so we get quality time with the youngest.

We are also doing free OU degree courses so we can get better paid jobs in a few years.

Wish to bloody god we did this earlier when we were BOTH stressed out working fulltime and brought in LESS that what we get now after childcare.

We shall enjoy this until 2013 I can tell you! I don't give a monkey's what anyone thinks of us. DH is still working after all and who would really continue working fulltime knowing they get all this? It may not be right but while it's on offer, should we refuse it?

Fernie - I have 13 years experience in my current field and will have been out of the loop as it were for 5 years when I go back. My qualification will help thanks. Also as
I am that bit older and will be past it with childbearing, I will probably be a more attractive (am that too actually) proposition to prospective employers what with the new maternity pay demands being bandied about.

Getting bored with this now and have money to spend so will bid you goodbye.

I really am real btw - sorry to disappoint.

Sorry again but we are NOT paying anything for the OU courses. Probably depends on what you are taking I am sure.

Hehe,

This thread could form the basis of research for an OU dissertation on bullshitting for a B.A. (Hons) Talking Out 'Yer Ass.

Just a thought.

Perhaps you're not paying for them because they're worth fuck all!

GMajor7DeadlySins · 23/10/2010 12:48

Ah yes, Riven, you're right. Perhaps a B.Sc. in Trolling would be a more apt qualification Smile

violethill · 23/10/2010 12:48

Yeah - funny that OP gets bored and needs to go shopping as soon as someone tries to pin her down about this 'dream job' ROFL

BitchyWitchy · 23/10/2010 12:51

OK OK it's actually a major supermarket and they cannot cut down on what he does or the stores would not open.

OP posts:
Hedgeblunder · 23/10/2010 12:52

Lol riven! That's right. I have to say as well that I claimed benefit after being made redundant and it was deeplydeeply unpleasant, humiliating and difficult. I was treated with utter contempt by benefit agencies and I am working very hard to avoid that happening again. I feel very sorry for people who do need to claim benefit through no fault of their own.

If this OP is indeed not a troll, I thoroughly recommed that in five years time she comes back to this thread and let's us all know how things are.

GMajor7DeadlySins · 23/10/2010 12:52

A-ha! Replenishment Operative Grin

BitchyWitchy · 23/10/2010 12:52

Am definitely going now.

Ha ha ha ha ha at this OP.

In the real world, anyone who has a career and opted for part-time knows it's career suicide or at best a massive career stopper -especially for men.

We would also be slighly better off if DH dropped 1 day a week, and my DH would be granted it, but his career prospects would die.

If you really think this is not the case then you are away with the fairies OP.

And good on you for calling yourself attractive, I have never come across that on here before and it did make me smile :o)

BitchyWitchy · 23/10/2010 12:53

Don't think shelf stackers get paid £34K do they?

OP posts:
Hedgeblunder · 23/10/2010 12:54

Believe me bitchywitchy, in a large chain everyone is disposable

GMajor7DeadlySins · 23/10/2010 12:55

BW in your world anything is possible!

scaryteacher · 23/10/2010 12:55

If it is a major supermarket, why is he not at the least a store manager then? As I said, he can't be that shit hot if he's not as he would have been promoted by now.

Oh believe me, he is shit hot! Not the type to sit behind a desk shuffling papers all day though. Boring!

OP posts:
violethill · 23/10/2010 12:58

Are you definitely definitely going now OP?

That shopping needs to be done - you can't expect your poor hubby to do it after a hard days grind packing shelves 2 days a week LMAO

MaMoTTaT · 23/10/2010 12:59

so the store wouldn't open without him - yet he only works 20 hours a week and the store - I presume - is open for longer than 20hrs a week??? So therefore there are other people doing the same job.......
