My dd has molluscum contagiosum. This is caused by a virus. She has spots that look like warts which then erupt and heal over before a new batch appears. It is not painful or itchy but is unslightly. She has the spots on her tummy, arms and tops of legs. The doctor says it should clear up of its own accord and no treatment is needed. Most adults are immune.

Yesterday the mother of my dds best friend, who has been avoiding us for a couple of weeks, finally admitted in an email that she did not want her dd to play with my dd anymore because she was afraid her family would catch it. The virus can last for years so she has effectively ended a five year friendship and I have no idea how to tell my dd that she won't see her best friend anymore.

If everyone behaves like this we will literally be like lepers.

YANBU - she is talking shite. she cannot shield her precious child from every disgusting parasite/virus. life doesn't work that way. ditch her.

molluscs are pretty disgusting. Both DDs have had them and then i got them too. v satisfying to squeeze.

also they are linked with eczema buti an't remember how or why but i know D1 had eczema flareups in the same places as her molluscs.

Two of my children had this a few years ago and it looked nasty. They were both very self conscious and we tried every thing. Docs wouldnt help at all so we researched "silver Cure". sounded great so got it and with in 3 months max all spots had completely gone!!! Expencive but well worth it! (had to get it from america on the internet)
I think your friend was BU to an extent but i also know how she must feel. Were not talking about catching a cold here, these things can last around 3 years!! (with out silver cure, and no im not a siver cure rep, its just we literally tried every thing and im amazed how quickly it worked for us) and what if her child got it worse, all over her face??
I personally wouldnt stop my children playing with others who had it but i wouldnt feel great about it either.

Im sorry for your dd, its really not nice. with all my research i did i found that if picked/sqeezed till the "middle" (the most contagious bit) was completely gone they all dissapear alot quicker than if left (althogh this is painful for the child)

Not sure ive helped in any way but i hope your DD recovers very quick!! Hx

There only linked to eczema because its easier for the virus to infect broken skin. Same goes if some one has alot of scratches/grazes or cuts. Swimming pools are the easiest places to catch these things! The virus/germs can live a fair while ie some one contagious sits on the bench in the changing rooms and a couple of days later another person comes in and sits there too. Thats it, passed on. Its that easy.

Whoa there tiger, it was mentioned because OP was trying to stir up stuff by pointedly telling you that her dcs are state educated and her mate's privately...as if that's why her friend was being a dick.

Riven,

dd goes to state school and her friend goes to a private school. I guess no-one at private school ever gets such a thing ....

I rest my case.

Perhaps I should have worn a hijab when DC came around afterall I've heard they're optional.

funny, I read the comment and it came over completely innocent other than OP being annoyed at her friend - not annoyed at Riven.

Jesus Christ, is it stupid day on MN?

She was trying to shit stir, getting Riven on side as a likely candidate, a divide between state and private. 'OOh my friend's children go to a private school, I suppose they don't have that there, isn't my friend a snobby bitch' type comment.

Aw poor you, both my dds have had it. Your friend is being a bit of a cow. I have a friend who would be like that too I reckon - she's very anxious about them catching anything.

Dd1 had mulluscum for about a year and we eventually went to a homeopath who gave us something which I can't remember Blush. I do remember it was 10 drops in water. They cleared up then, but I am sceptical about whether it was the stuff or they were going anyway.

I remember shopping in Gap for a baby present and some bitch took one look at my dd and ushered her kids out quick as a flash Shock I felt like running after her and lamping her, I was so upset.

Horrid for you. It'll pass though, chin up.

I wouldn't know that it wasn't contagious and would need to be educated. However, your DD's friend's mother should have been direct and simply asked.

Oh my ds has this. I had no idea until recently that it was contagious and he's been sharing towels with dd forever. He's had it for about a year, she doesn't have any. Just one of those things. They do look a bit gross but that's life. I have to say I would be upset if they were over dc's faces
I don't have a point really but your friend is being an idiot if that helps.

YANBU. I recall a mother in the paddling pool pulling her daughter away from mine who was overed in molluscums and feeling very hurt. Horrid friend - don't take it to heart - there are much nicer people out there. The molluscums are self limiting and disappear after 12-24 months. DD's seemed to last forever but the catalyst was chicken pox. They all "exploded" within about a month of her catching it. Might have been a coincidence -who knows.

Jeffcapes.......... be careful, thats what i thought when my DS had it (that my other children hadnt got it so yeyyy) that was before i evn knew what they were cos when they start they look like tiny little skin tags, but then develop into unsightly warty white heads!! Mu DD did get them in the end. You have to boil wash bedding, towels etc. Its highly contagious!!! Hx

I thought it was contagious through swimming pools, thought that's how my 2 got it as they were swimming almost everyday.

onceamai............ no offence but i would have done the same. When my DC's had this it was summer and i never, ever asked (or expected) my friends children to play in the paddling pool with them!! How would i feel if there children got them because of this!!??? I also never took them swimming which was a shame cos they loved it but it wouldnt have been fair on others and thats exactly how my Dc's got them in the first place!!! I dont think we should treat them as leppers but at the same time there is a responibility to save others from this misfortune too.

Fastedwina........... its more common for people to get it in swimming pools/paddling pools. I gue this is cos there not fully clothed maybe so theres more areas for the virus to get at, and maybe the water helps. TBH im not totally sure but ive noticed most people get it from these places.. My son got it all around his cheast and under arms. I suddenly clicked one day thats where the long floaty thing goes that assists him with swimming!
