To want to walk into my bank...

Wuxiapian · 22/10/2010 16:22

... and take everything out I have with them?

They have seriously pissed me about the past few months - not making requested transfers and not contacting me to explain the problem.

I've spent a fortune trying to get through to my branch - they don't answer or respond to "urgent notes" placed by call centre operatives.

Thank you.

Dump them and take your business elsewhere. Write a letter to explain to them why and just to rub salt in the wound, tell the name of your new bank to make them jealous.

I'm not sick of my bank, but my husband's bank are just rubbish and keep moving the goalposts.

Of course YANBU.

It's your choice.

Just open a new bank account before you withdraw everything from the old one and close it down.

pickledbabe · 22/10/2010 16:30

YANBU.

but make sure you tell them exactly why you don't want to be their customer, in writing to the head office.

UnquietDad · 22/10/2010 16:32

I hate the fact that I can no longer talk to The Manager(ess) at my personal branch. I cannot even phone my branch. Everything has to go centrally.

I've moved banks twice because of this kind of messing about. It takes a lot for me to move providers of anything, because I'm (a) loyal and (b) lazy. But it is surprisingly easy to do. The new bank you select will be delighted to smooth your path as much as possible Grin

Is it Santander by any chance?.
Those people really suck. They charged my 17 year old $315 in overdraft frees on less than $20 overdrawn ( minor miscalculation on his part). They charged me over $500 in fees after a mix up with a money market deposit. I hate them.
I would switch but at this point Ive got child support going in there direct deposit ( good luck getting the state of Mass to change that without a huge problem)Ive got life insurance coming out direct debit and Ive no idea where its going to as my financial advisor set it up ( sad innit?) and I totally dont have the mental energy to deal with that right now (plus I dont get home from work in time to make the calls needed). I will do it when I get to it tho, I HATE BANKS!!!!!

KickArseQueenOfTheDamned · 23/10/2010 02:23

theoldtrout, If you cancel the direct debit for the life insurance they will write you a letter advising you that a new payment needs to be set up.

The letter should have your reference no on it and you can then call them ask for duplicate certificates and reinstate the direct debit.

As for the Direct deposit, open a new account and set up a standing order from the old one to pay the child support into the new one every time it lands in the account?

OP, open a new account and never look back.

Money saving expert will be able to tell you which is the best bank account, you can probably apply online.

OldTrout I too am having massive problems with Santander bank now it's changed from Abbey. I had no problems with Abbey at all and had been a customer for years. I'm in the process of changing banks after they completely withdrew my mum's £1,000 overdraft with just 2 weeks notice and have lowered my DH & my joint account overdraft with 3 weeks notice. They've told us the only explanation is that they're currently lowering everyone's overdrafts even though our account runs smoothly! They've also 'lost' a £60 cash payment I made over the counter. The cashier remembers doing the transaction but I stupidly didn't get a receipt (she didn't give me one and I forgot to ask!) so I have no come back at all. This is just one of the many mistakes they've made over the past few months including cancelling all my direct debits and standing orders when I'd only signed/asked for one to be stopped!! This meant I got charges from credit cards etc for late payments. [hangry]

In my opinion Abbey were great but Santander are too big for their boots. [hsad]

Banks are such incredible wankers at times.

My personal account sees very little action. The only money that goes in it is my child benefit and the only money coming out is my phone bill. Sometimes I've had bigger things coming up to pay for I'll go in and put in an extra £50 or whatever. On a couple of occasions though I've been charged £35 by them for going over my OD. Once was by 4p and more recently. By 1p...yes one pence. They did fuck all to help me and despite me pointing out that it was pennies and rectifying it as soon as I noticed...

Anyway, earlier this year OH and I sold a car for £12k and because it was in my name the cheque came to me. As soon as I put it in the wankers were falling over theirselves to help me! Their attitude towards me completely changed. The money was needed for our new house so it wasn't in there long and when I withdrew it I had great pleasure in telling them it was going into savings at their rival bank over the road.

I hate banks with passion.

pickledbabe · 23/10/2010 11:40

theoldtrout santander is sooooo rubbish, I could write an essay!

one of the latest for me is that I changed my address on my business account, and I had to go into the branch and change it, even though normally , you're not allowed to do business banking in branch Confused. So I got a couple of things from them at my new address.
But they still send my statements to my old address!! I can't fathom it out! why would you think that someone changing their address only wants the "please have your insurance with us" leaflets, and not the statements? Confused

Chil1234 · 23/10/2010 11:58

YANBU... I think you've been more than charitable to put up with it for so long. My friend got some really shoddy treatment over setting up a very small O/D limit with Nat West last year. She'd been with them for years!! Halifax were only too happy to open her an account, sort out the O/D limit with no quibbles, transfer all her Direct Debits and I think she even qualified for a £100 'thank you' at the time as well.

There are no prizes for being a loyal bank customer. Take your money elsewhere

theoldtrout01876 · 24/10/2010 02:30

I had Sovereign bank for 10 years before Santander took em over. I never had a problem, ever. They saw me through the financial mess of a divorce with no overdraft frees,or dropping them when you called and explained
now what happens, according to the customer service dude is that they play it every which way to get the most fees from you. My son,for example, thought that when he bought gas with a debit card it came out instantly like most other transactions do ,he checked his account next day,it had money in it so hes like wooohooo Ive got $20 left over. He bought $ 1.49 in coffee from dunkin donoughts $2.49 at mcdonalds,$1.75 at kentucky fried etc. The bank when processing these said the $20 in gas had an earlier date, so even tho it wasnt taken out then, they were going to charge him $35 for each transaction after that date. All the previous charges were made before the gas station submitted their charge. My problem was not the overdraft charge, cos he had overdrawn but why couldnt they have just charged him for the gas which was submitted after the $17 of other charges. So instead of 1 $35 fee for being over drawn for the gas, they charged him$35 fee for every little thing after that. HIs $1.49 coffee ended up costing him $36.49 etc
I think its because europe has put such restrictions on this this type of thing these banks are buying over here where they have NO restrictions and can make up lost revenue
2 different mates of mine had same problem with citizens bank which it RBS i believe .
They all suck !!!!!!
