to appreciate the fence?

Our neighbours have just replaced the fence between our houses - very nice.

Slight problem - the fence is our responsibility, not theirs!

They did the job without consulting us - it just appeared whilst I was out yesterday. They only rent the property anyway - single mum on benefits - over involved parents appear to have planned the new fence. If they had told us the job was going ahead we would have pointed out it was our responsibilty. Fence was old but in reasonable condition ie. no holes, not falling down etc.

AIBU to just accept the fence and say nothing?

If you are happy with the fence I would leave it to be honest and enjoy the fact you havent got to spend money on it Smile

Lets just hope they dont put a bill through the door though lol

I don't see the problem really! It's saved you having to fork out for a new fence in X amount of years. My neighbour got her awful lummox of a son to put up a fence in her front garden. He started pulling up the privet hedge between our gardens, gave up half way and just put the fence up next to the mess he'd made, thus giving me about two extra feet of garden. (I trimmed the remaining privet right back and it looks grand :))

If you're not expected to pay anything towards it then leave it. Maybe from their side, it was a bit tatty, or maybe they have a dog or small shildren and wanted to make sure it was safe. It would be unreasonable of them to ask you for a new fence if it was to benefit them iyknim.

If you are in a position to do so, maybe go round and say thank you and offer something towards it? But then i'm soft so if not dont worry!

We would have been quite happy to replace the fence, but as they did it without consultation I think we'll leave it.

It wasn't dangerous to dogs or small children just looked a bit darker than they would have liked and definitely looked aged - they have spent a lot of money on having an immaculate garden. Let's hope the owners of the property don't decide to sell up in the near future - they're unaware of the work that's been going on!
