to think that it is bloody stupid to let your DC run around in cafes when there are people walking with hot drinks?

FFS this really gets on my tits. Went to a cafe today and there were about three or four toddlers tearing around which I don't have a problem with per se but when I'm walking to a table in a very small cafe with a scalding cup of coffee, I really don't want to collide with them. I don't want anyone to get hurt. Is it too much to ask to ask you to sit outside (yes I know it's bloody cold but you have coats, right) or make your children sit down? It was like a scary obstacle course today :(

YANBU

I used to let DD roam a little but made sure she was out of the way of waitresses or customers carrying drinks or food.

This used to annoy me when I worked at a cafe. It is dangerous unless the place is very quiet.

But now DD is at the wants to be in everything stage I could never get her to sit still without a fight.

Decided to avoid cafes until she gets better at listening to me. (so, never again then?!)

YANBU. I actually quite like children but I sometimes half wish that somebody would drop something on them just to teach their parents why it is a bloody stupid thing to let them do. I HATE children wandering around coffee shops, restaurants etc.

My DS was scalded in a cafe. He wasn't running around it was just some careless tit with scalding black tea, but my heart is in my mouth seeing other children running around.
Then again I am anal about that kind of thing now!

Yabu to expect them to sit outside!
Yanbu to think they should sit down and behave. I wouldnt like to be the one who told their mothers this!

PictureThis · 20/10/2010 22:08

i bloody hate it when kids run around in a cafe so no YANBU as far as I'm concerned.

HeadlessLadyBiscuit · 20/10/2010 22:09

It's not that long laweasel - my DS has been fine at sitting down since he turned three. This cafe has a doorway about a metre and a half wide between the counter and the tables and all the tables are really close together so there really is no room to run about if people are trying to get past. There is an enormous seating area outside so really no need to sit in if you have toddlers (and you value their wellbeing)

Unfortunately DD seems to have got a headstart on toddlerness. Has been doing lying on the floor kicking and screaming tantrums since before she could walk!

3,eh? Only a year and a half then...

If we're talking about dangerous things for toddlers to do in cafes, letting them sit against the door where no one can see them from the other side is not wise either!

YANBU
it terrifies me.
We went to a carvery outside Plymouth - mountains of boiling hot food and drink, people piling plates up as far as possible and teetering to tables, and some children running about among them.
A friend at school was very badly scalded - perhaps people have to see the results before they realise Sad
