Benefits Wise Would I Be Better Off "Leaving Him"

Currently living my mum with my partner and little cherub.

Things are obviously tough at the moment due to him being out of work. Would I be better off claiming that he has left us and going homeless in hope of getting a better council house. Then getting him to move in afterwards. To be honest I cant see any otyher way of getting out of our situation as living with my parents is not very healthy for our relationship.

ack don't worry about it BG - she's not going to get very far cheating the system by splitting up with him Grin

no need to do this. Go to the council and ask to go on the tenancy deposit guarantee scheme. Neither or you are working so you will need to claim housing benefit, no problems there. you will need to call around all the letting agents to find one that takes this scheme and then view a house, once the council have safety checked it they guarantee the deposit and you apply for hosuing beenfit the day you move in. You need pay no rent up front and once you or dp is working you can stop claiming hb and pay the rent for yourself without losing your home.

It will be much quicker than waiting for a council hosue as its not going to happen!

Hope this helps

Nordic - it's got different names in different parts of the country (it's the Rent Assistance Scheme here).

IS this serious :O ??

It would be ridiculous to suggest that your DP should go and get a job and support his family instead and you too? Plenty of mothers work. Your mum can look after cherub(cherub FFS) and you can both work until you can afford to pay for your own place.

Problem solved. Grin

Nordic Princess thanks for the advice, nobody has ever mentioned that scheme to me so it's defi something I can look at. DP got notice of an interview for a part time job this morning, not much but it's something. Thank you again, I reread my posts and i can see how it looked dodgy so apologies to those who took issue with them. The word benefit has so many different conotations I should chose my words more carefully.

OMG. How is this not fraud?

Why should you jump the queue above others just because they are honest and you are willing to lie? You are adequately housed. You are not on the streets.

Sorry, but you would be totally out of line to do this. Just because you can doesn't mean you morally should.
