I am inspired by the post about the pierced baby. So my 6 year old DD is desperate to get her ears pierced...am tempted to let her...she understand what happens and also the afer care...but DH hates the idea and her Gran says it's too young and she will look common. I disagree...I saw lovely family on holiday this year...they were French and their DD was about 7...she had short bobbed hair and lovely little girl clothes...and diamond studs....looked pretty.

What do you think? I could do it in the Summer hols to avoid catching them at school....DH might object but if he agreed should I?

YANBU but be aware of the pain and aftercare.

I had mind done at 8 years old and I didn't take good enough care of them. My mum had to keep doing it for me and I got tired of it. They got badly infected and I let them seal.

I finally got them done again at 17 and i was religious with the cleaning. You need to clean twice a day with surgical spirit for at least 6-8 weeks. I lapsed for a couple of days when I was 17 and pus came out of it. TH aftercare is quite alot to deal with for a young child.

Also dont go to Claire's or ANY store that uses a piercing gun. Those guns cannot be properly sterilised. Go to places that actually use a needle and then put the earrings in after. THat said the needle method is probably too painful for a child.

I had my eyes pierced at 15. My Mum said "If God had meant you to have holes in your ears you would've been born with them." every time I asked from about 10 years. Then one day we were in town and she said, "Do you still want your ears pierced?" and that was that.

Then 12 years later she had her own pierced -figure that one out!!

I personally think 6 yrs is too young. Your choice though. Grin

I'm sure most boys would think it would be pretty cool to have an extra arm grafted onto their back. It would scare people and make them look more like a super-villain.

Both my Dd's had their ears pierced before they were a year old, I think it looks sooooo cute on a baby,There was no problem with either one. The problem I have is now my 5 year old is pushing for a second hole in each ear so Ill probably get my pediatrician to do it when I take her in for her 6 year physical.

My 14 year old has now got 11 holes on her ears (plus her lip) and is looking to get her monroe pierced next but I dont want her to do that.

My sons have huge gauges ( DS2 actually takes his out and sticks his thumb through the hole to gross me out).Ds1 is after snake bites and Ds2 wants his septum pierced. Methinks Ive let the self expression thing go to far!!!!
