cos the amount of snobby posts seem to be getting daft

OP posts:
FranknCock · 18/10/2010 11:49

discobeaver (Grin the name tickles me), I remember that tea-making cleaner thread! Very very funny.

DeadPoncy · 18/10/2010 11:49

ZombiePandaEatsEis, what you and I meant was that we wanted to mix with different people. It is so easy to have a socially ghettoised life, in which "everyone" thinks and does things a certain way. I think I was flamed as it came across as graciously rubbing my silk-clad elbows with the rough joints of t'less well off. Which is a really offensive thing to think, and of course I didn't think it. However, maybe I just sounded too la-di-dah....

LetThereBeRock · 18/10/2010 11:52

I agreee that there are a lot of snobbish posts on here, but it's always been that way. I don't think that there's been a sudden plethora of such posts, more a constant presence.

It tends to be the same few posters everytime in my experience, who seem to revel in their snobbery.
.
We all have our own prejudices, but there's no need to publicly advertise them,as though it's something to be proud of.

Reverse snobbery is also fairly common on here, and almost as annoying.

ZombiePandaEatsEis · 18/10/2010 12:21

exactly deadponcey i just dont see how anyone would even think to raise an eyebrow at the commentHmm i just find it odd reallySmile

if anything i am from the more...shall we say...less well to do section of society (lack of money and apparantly shopping regularly in tesco's marks me as suchSmile not arsed to be frank...we dont have a waitrose anywhere near us and tesco is cheaper anywaySmile)

DeadPoncy · 18/10/2010 12:31

Smile I know! I have never felt MN to be overpopulated with Rich Bitches - are these snob-hunters ignoring the plentiful pleas for advice over about exes who won't pay maintenance and leave their DCs in dodgy financial circumstances? (sadly, there are a lot of families with this problem, so we can't claim we don't know it exists), complaints about family members who want expensive Christmas, which an OP can't afford?, etc. - so do find the "snobbish" label a bit off, applied to MN as a whole.

I must admit to being a bit of a language snob, but have kept myself away from pedants' corner for a while, and tend not to have a go about language on the talk boards, as it is just rude and mean to tell people they are ill-educated - or whatever - when they have a real problem.

deepheat · 18/10/2010 12:54

Come on, it could be a lot worse. One would rather read the views of snobs than the views of the working class surely?

DeadPoncy · 18/10/2010 12:56
Biscuit
OooeeeoooeeeoooeeEthel · 18/10/2010 13:04

Why would the working class have anything less interesting to say than a snob? There are plenty of working class snobs anyway.

proudnscary · 18/10/2010 14:12

I think Mumsnet should be renamed knobsnet

Diziet · 18/10/2010 14:22

I reckon "Blobsnet"... for that Special time of the month....

ragged · 18/10/2010 14:25

I failed to muster up a contribution to either of the Snob threads (What you Are and Aren't (subtext, but should be) a snob about) ... I just am not that opinionated about other people.

I suspect that there are a lot of MNers like me?

fastedwina · 18/10/2010 14:26

the 'rich bitches' probably actually don't reveal how well off or comfortable they are. Its one thing on Mumsnet to go on about how little or poor you are but if you replied in kind with how well off you are you'd be attacked and scorned in an instant. So sure most just keep quiet.

usualsuspect · 18/10/2010 14:27

The thing that makes me laugh is the snobs on MN probably all do the things they say they are snobbish about anyway..bet they are sat at their computers in their uggs and jeggings watching jezza and eating pot noodles..best way to handle it is to take it with a large pinch of salt Wink thats waitrose finest salt obviously Wink

proudnscary · 18/10/2010 14:30

Grin @ blobsnet

Or Slobsnet (dressing gown brigade)
Gobsnet (chesty cough brigade)
Fognsnet (hangover brigade)
Sobsnet (had enough of the dc brigade)

tinky19 · 18/10/2010 14:34

Grin Just trying to decide how many of those I would come under poundnscary

pagwatch · 18/10/2010 14:36

I don't know. I would love to comment but I fear you may all be riff raff

pagwatch · 18/10/2010 14:36

twatsnet =trolls

theywillgrowup · 18/10/2010 14:40

personally would love to hear about the "rich peoples"lives

that is not said in a horrible manner, just love to know how other people live

its never going to happen though for fear of a backlash

retiredgoth2 · 18/10/2010 14:49

I just don't get all this 'class' and 'snobbery' stuff at all.

Not at all.

I am, you see, utterly classless. These discussions leave me all of a flutter.

Think I may need a cup of Earl Grey to calm me. Just off to put the kettle on the Aga...

DeadPoncy · 18/10/2010 15:00

Another issue for MNers about snobbery is that it is boring. Snobbery is not knowing how other people do things, but imagining it is just dreadful. Maybe a little imagination is involved, in imagining just how dreadful, but that imagination is probably going to be relying on the usual (snobbish) tropes, so is inherently conservative.

zingzillachinchilla · 18/10/2010 15:08

snobsnet - love it Grin

zingzillachinchilla · 18/10/2010 15:11

blobsnet - even better GrinGrin

usualsuspect · 18/10/2010 15:12

Yes I agree very boring ..they could all copy and paste one post and get it over and done with

pagwatch · 18/10/2010 15:22

YY. But I think snobbery, and inverted snobbery are all the same thing. An inability to concieve that the way you do things is not the only valid way.

I can't contribute to the snobbery thread because although I have ways I do things they are mostly comfort and habit. Like societal OCD.
Although Primark is just wrong

mumofthreesweeties · 18/10/2010 15:33

Is there a link to the cleaner making tea thread. I am already in giggles before I've even located the thread. Link please pretty please
