To think there is no reason my 11 yo DS can't try on jeans in the fitting room in Women's Wear

Given that the children's wear one is shut and it's all separate cubicles?

They tried to tell me we had to go down two floors to menswear.

They saw sense in the end.

YANBU that would piss me off being expected to go two floors away

BuntyPenfold · 18/10/2010 11:05

YANBU
if it is all separate cubicles I don't see how there could possibly be any objection.

PaisleyPumpkin · 18/10/2010 11:12

yanbu. We should all be able to try on clothes on the same floor we've got them from.

SoupDragon · 18/10/2010 12:34

I couldn't believe it was even considered a problem. I deliberately didn't choose the lingerie one :)

YANBU - I go in the men's changing rooms all the time - and even the mens toilet if push come to shove. You can even see willies there as well if you try.

ForMashGetSmash · 18/10/2010 12:48

Well....er....YABU. The women's changing is the womens changing..not the boys or the men's. Some girls and women wouldn't feel comfortable. Not like he's in a buggy at 11 which would make the journey hard....walk to the male area!

2shoeprintsintheblood · 18/10/2010 12:52

yabu sorry but at 11 he should either be in the kids or mens changing rooms

Feenie · 18/10/2010 12:52

Why wouldn't you feel comfortable behind a curtain? He's only 11. If you are that nervous, you might aswell not use changing rooms at all.

ForMashGetSmash · 18/10/2010 12:57

Feenie...as I have small children they regularly open the curtains...I might cope with an 11 year old boy around but teens or tweens would feel self conscious...I'm not nervous...it's a femal changing room so it would be reasonable to not expect males in there no?

Feenie · 18/10/2010 12:59

Males, no - 11 year olds with their mum when the children's changing room is closed, yes!

MissAnneElk · 18/10/2010 13:00

YABU he really should use the mens changing rooms. I'm surprised he was happy to use the ladies.

SpottyMuldoon · 18/10/2010 13:01

But, but, but...he might see my.... butt Shock

What are people worried about? That he might catch a glimpse of someone's bum/boobs? I'm assuming he'll be in a cubicle and so will everyone else so can't see a problem.

ForMashGetSmash · 18/10/2010 13:01

Feenie....you see him as a little boy still and indeed he is really...but as a family with no boys at all, my girls would be very uncomortable with it...so no...not yes.

bigTillyMint · 18/10/2010 13:02

YANBU, but I'm surprised he agreed to use the womens - my DS(9) would have insisted we walk down the 2 floors!

ForMashGetSmash · 18/10/2010 13:04

And another thing...many girls go through puberty at 9...they would mostly be very selfconscious about someing out in their outfit and looking in the big full length mirrors...or showing Mum their new outfit if there was an 11 year old boy in there too!

ColdComfortFarm · 18/10/2010 13:04

I am sure we are talking about separate cubicles here, so I don't see a problem. If it is a room, then I would go elsewhere.

Feenie · 18/10/2010 13:05

I wonder if it's as simple as MNers with ds not giving a hoot, and MNers with girls being uncomfortable?

Maybe we should do an impromptu survey - I have one ds, and it wouldn't bother me at all.

ForMashGetSmash · 18/10/2010 13:05

Coming out in their outfit...not "someing"

ForMashGetSmash · 18/10/2010 13:07

Probably Feenie....it probably is...I only have girls and they are both very wary of bigger lads....not because they or I think all boys are perves...but just because they're a different entity.

So there's my contribution to the survey....2 DD's and we would mind. Interested in how it turns out....ae me and mine massive prudes? (probably)or normal and a little bit chaste (possibly)

SpottyMuldoon · 18/10/2010 13:07

But he's not going to be standing by the mirrors gawping at whoever's there is he? He's going to be in a cubicle with his mother trying on his jeans and probably going 'I hate them!! I want ones that that show off my pants to the whole world like everyone else!!! Noone wears flares nowadays! I hate you!!!!'

WowOoo · 18/10/2010 13:07

JamieLeeCurtis Grin

Has he been shocked for life or hideously repulsed by anything he's seen?!
If you'd been near to us, perhaps he would have....

DS1 always opens the curtains for everyone to get a good look. Especially changing rooms where it opens onto a shop where attractive men wait for their beautiful wives.

ColdComfortFarm · 18/10/2010 13:10

Do all shops have separate male/female changing areas? I honestly do not see a problem if we are talking about separate cubicles, and it isn't the lingerie dept. I would never take my ds shopping and expect him to try on clothes though!

JamieLeeCurtis · 18/10/2010 13:10

I have boys, so I guess that fits your theory, Feenie .....

JamieLeeCurtis · 18/10/2010 13:11

...ColdComfort - I cannot imagine persuading my DSs to try on clothes, either. I can barely get them to try them on at home

ForMashGetSmash · 18/10/2010 13:14

Spotty....what...so he will never not oncce look at the other occupants of the changing room?
